Quote Replies?

Greetings!

I know that SpursCentral forums rely on EZBoard, but would you consider trying to add a feature that allows posters to automatically insert a quote of the post they are replying to? As it is now, we have to scroll down to the message, copy, scroll up to the reply, paste, then type in the

around the text manually. If the new EZBoard 7 doesn't include the quote feature, I'm sure a custom control that does this can be made. What do you say?

Thanks!

Seems like a good idea to me.
We'll let Maorza look into it when he returns.

I have really looked into the options here and have found really that he only way to get it done here now would be to add it into the code.

How? Dunno. Or I can ask EZ-Board for help.

Quote:
I have really looked into the options here and have found really that he only way to get it done here now would be to add it into the code.

Does EZBoard let you make custom Web pages for the forums? All the button would have to do is write "
space [ /quote]" at the cursor whenever you click it. It can be accomplished with HTML forms like this:

<input type=submit name="quoteButton" value="Quote" onClick='document.writeln("
Insert your quote here[ /quote]";return 0;')>

There's probably a little bit more to it, but it shouldn't be too hard to accomplish since the Ultimate Bulletin Board software implements it.

I've seen another bulletin board that has only one button that when you click it the first time, it prints "[ quote]", then the button label changes to "Close Quote" or something similar. If you click it again, it will print "[ /quote]". I forgot which one does this.

It will probably be an added feature in some future EZBoard release, but only if enough people request it at their feedback forums. In the meantime, it shouldn't be that much of a problem to implement(rig ) it.

Edited by: MadeFromDust at: 11/28/02 7:45:11 am

Unfortunately, the ezboard html option allows for only custom headers and body. In those parameters of course one can do just about anything in there as we have. However the option that you're talking about requires us to put this command into an area where we have no access (from what I can gather from the template) I will ask some of the ezboard gurus.

I will continue to research this.
From the ezboard announcement about the new server software:
Quote:
ezPost Formatting Interface

We’ve completely redesigned our posting interface to make code formatting easier than ever. Instead of typing the code yourself, ezPost does it for you with just the click of your mouse. The interface automatically appears on all communities that allow ezcodes and/or HTML in posts

Edited by: Cleve Steamer at: 12/10/02 6:43:26 pm

The new format is pretty cool Much easier to use than typing in everything - it does almost everything HTML does - almost.........
