Crystal Ball Predictions for '03-'04 Season

I didn't win anything.

The Spurs beat everybody 4-2.

Your argument is way over-complicating the issue. You've become redundant and clinging to the same argument.

The issue is the Spurs and Mavs had the same record. Best in the league. The Lakers and Suns did not.

On top of that Our MVP out MVP'd your MVP's in the clutch.

Your opinion is your own. But you're preaching to the wrong crowd.

I'm not preaching anything. I just find it funny that you would think it's ridiculous to think the Lakers can't go 16-1 when they've done it in the past and are now far better than they used to be with GP and Malone. But it's your prerogative to ignore obvious facts like superstars getting injured or teams like the Lakers, Kings, and Mavs being much better this year, or even the fact that the Spurs are now weaker without their clutch 3-point shooter in Kerr, their clutch shooter in Jackson, their clutch point guard in Claxton, and of course their defensive big man in Drob.

But what do I know, I'm sure Horry won't repeat his 2-38 performance for the Spurs this year, I'm sure Mercer and Carter are the next Claxton, and I'm sure Turk will shoot just as well as Jackson did last year.
Matter of fact I think that Lakers have done extremely well to acquire Payton and Malone.

I think the Spurs were rebuilding last year with 1st and 2nd year players. They are once again transitioning. The Spurs always start slow.

I agree the Spurs road is alot tougher as Champs.

I never said ridiculousI said I heard it all last year. Two years previous the Lakers backed it up.

Honestly, to say that injuries were the only reason the Spurs won the Championship. As inept as my Spurs seemed sometimes, they came close to losing it all. Against even the Lakers.

But they won it.

ShaqAttack, care to list for us which of the Lakers' three rings was one with no injuries on any opposing teams?

Hint: A key member of the Spurs was injured for each year, so you won't be able to. But go ahead and try.

No Laker fan could have predicted 16-1 before last season, as the change wasn't implemented until halfway thru last season in an effort by the NBA to give the struggling Lakers a chance at advancing past round 1. Unfortunately the Lakers were healthy enough before the season started for the first round format change to make a difference.

The Lakers HAVE NEVER gone 16-1.

We'll see come playoff time.

If this Spurs team gels like it's supposed to, nobody will touch them--not even L.A.

If the Spurs went 17-13 through the first 30 games this year, that would be great.

But coach Pop will have them ready come playoff time.

I just hope the Spurs and Lakers play each other in the playoffs--so we can settle all of these unimportant early-season predictions.

Injuries were the only reason the Spurs won the title last year. Ignore the Webber, Dirk, and Kobe injuries, and even Horry’s bruised hand if you want. But the reality is, they happened, and they were much bigger than injuries to Anderson, Elliott, Johnson and even over-the-hill Drob over the last four years. We're talking superstar injuries, not role player crap. So you can ignore the Fox and George injuries, that's fine.

Though no doubt, Spurs were a good team last year. But you’ve lost all of your role players sans Parker and Manu (who are great, actually), don’t except a title with Duncan and cream puff Rasho in the middle battling Malone and Shaq or Webber and Miller.

But keep on believing, man. Ignore the press and any of the many half-intelligent basketball fans out there, if you want. People are still predicting L.A. will win it all, and the smarter ones are predicting Sac if L.A. doesn’t win.

I would actually care if those injuries were to Duncan, but they weren’t. Of course I concede 2000 where Duncan was out, but since the Spurs were romped 8-1 the next two years with a nearly identical team in 2001, what in the world makes you believe the Spurs were capable of beating the Lakers in 2000, especially when you consider the Lakers finished first in the West at 67-15. Hello?

Quote:
The Lakers HAVE NEVER gone 16-1.

You missed the point, sadly. Yeah, 15-1, an absolutely stunning difference. Gargantuan.
It's sad Spurs fans have stooped as low as this.

Edited by: Kevin Kaster at: 11/2/03 5:38 am

I just like how all non-Spurs fans bring up injuries as a reason the Spurs won it all last year. Never mind how the team dominated going into, and after, the all-star game. Never mind the best record in the league. Never mind how they never dropped two in a row. Never mind how the Suns were the only team in the West to have a wiining record against the Spurs in the regular season, only to have it handed back to them WHEN IT COUNTS.

How about this? They were the best last year, and they proved it, and they now have the trophy and the banner to show for it.

Does that mean anything this year? No. So it's time to start looking ahead at this year, and the new-look Spurs team. A lot of question marks, but as always, you have to give the Spurs time, like a fine wine.

The Lakers & Mavs & Kings fans all have reasons to be cocky, and believe their team could win it all, but then again, they felt that way last year too, didn't they???
