Deja Vu Part: II

Quote:
Sam, the Spurs went 0-17...AT HOME...during a pivotal fourth quarter stretch. Sam, the Spurs didn't lose to a prayer, they got outclutched by what is clearly a better team AT THIS POINT. I'm confident the Spurs CAN come back and win the series, but the Spurs will clearly need Rasho and Devin. Tim is obviously too soft to dominate right now.

I don't know...I think the Nuggets played pretty poorly in the fourth quarter, but somehow the Spurs managed to play worse. This was exactly the kind of game that the Spurs DON'T need.

The Spurs have the advantage of experience, maturity, and previous championships. It's more than a little intimidating to a young upstart team like Denver. With the injuries the Spurs have had in the last few games; we seem a little more beatable. The worst thing we could have possibly done is go out there and beat ourselves. And that's basically what happened.

Had they blown us out by about twenty points they might be a little over-confident. But they didn't. The Nuggets played very poorly in the forth quarter and still managed to win only because the Spurs missed their last 17 shots. The Nuggets will probably play better next game, and I have a hard time believing that the Spurs' confidence won't be more than a little shaken after tonight.
Deja Vu Part: II

This isn't even close to being the same as it was in 03. Like i said before in 03 the suns won at the buzzer this game spurs sucked the whole 4th. If you think it's the same then you are the fool. The suns weren't even as hot as the nuggets comming out the all star break.

It seems like most of you think The Spurs played a brilliant game one against Phoenix and Stoudamire hit a 40 pointer to tie the game?

The Spurs played like crap just as they did today. They will watch some tape, Pop will get in their faces and they will show up.
Deja Vu Part: II

Spurs played like crap in both games. I remember in the Phoenix game, Duncan couldn't get anything going because of constant double and triple teams, and we had trouble countering that. Plus we missed a ton of free throws in that game that could have sealed the deal. Particularly two missed ones by Duncan right before Marbury's game-winning heave.

Sure the situations are different, being that Denver is hotter than Phoenix and bla bla bla, but still, it really isn't THAT different than what we faced in 2003, which was being down 0-1 in the first round and losing the home court advantage. Still, I don't see us going down easy because the Spurs just won't go down like that in the 1st round, Pop wil make sure of that. They'll make some adjustments and play better in the 4th (playoffs are all about adjustments, which can be made game to game since you play the same opponent so may times) There's concern, sure. But it's not panic time. Parker and Barry showing up for these exact types of situations we paid them for, particularly Brent, would be nice though.

Guys I don't know about Deja Vu, but I thought the Spurs were still going to pull this out in the 4th qtr. I was at the game, the atmosphere was outstanding to begin with. The Nuggets even looked intimidated in the 1st quarter. but, How about "here we go again" popped into my head when Parker disappeared again. Nazr, Duncan, Ginobilli showed up, but not T.Parker. Parker looked lost and timid from the 2nd quarter on. So much for a "new Tony Parker".
SPURSMANIA -
Sam, again, great column as always and related to the loss is another obvious stat:

The Spurs have now lost 5 playoff games in-a-row. Someone pointed it out at Spurstalk. That's pretty damn incredible if you really think about it. Hell, I would've bet virtually any sum of money against a five game playoff losing streak by the Spurs against anyone, especially with Duncan on the floor!

Sam, your contributions here are immense.
