well that and Magic could play defense. Great points Sis. Strong comeback my ass. This dude would rather have J.O. over Dirk.

Quote:
The Waltons, The O'Neals, the Nowitzkis...

huh?

Quote:
Seven foot small forward = Keith Van Horne

Dirk ain't KVH no matter what position he plays.

Quote:
Are you saying Johnson would have still played point if he were three inches taller?

No, I am not.

Quote:
I'll go with Stockton

That's nuts. I'll go with Magic Johnson and his superior all around game with the triple doubles flying out everywhere and his 5 NBA Championship rings and multiple MVP's etc... etc... etc... But, yeah Stockton is not a bad player either.

I ain't got no Pals at DB.com.

Quote:
And Dirk is no Magic.

No $#!+ ?!

Quote:
I think it is fruitless to try and compare the two. Magic is in another league of ballplayers.

I AM NOT COMPARING MAGIC JOHNSON WITH DIRK NOWITZKI!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD ACTUALLY READ INTO IT THAT WAY. MAGIC JOHNSON WAS SIMPLY THE BEST EXAMPLE I COULD THINK OF AT THE TIME. MAGIC WAS CONSIDERED BY MANY AS UNIQUE AND NOT THE NORM. DIRK IS UNIQUE AND NOT THE NORM FOR A SEVEN FOOTER.

I am not comparing Dirk with Tim either. TiMVP is the best player in the league. Tim's game and Dirk's game are very different, as they are different style players.

Look, the whole point of your first post was that you'd get rid of Nowitzki and get O'Neal. You ran down Nowitzki, so I'm defending him a little. My whole point is, You are nuts for thinking Jermaine O'Neal is better than Dirk Nowitzki. Let's call a truce. I won't attack you, you don't attack me, deal? All you other people are crazy to defend sysphos on this one, when I am so clearly right. Have a nice day!
Call me crazy but I would be way more scared of Dallas if they had Oneal insted of Nowitzki.

Nash, Finley, Oneal is more than enough scoring. Nowitzki is a defensive liability.

Finley is wasted on that team...

FREE FINLEY.

Woah woah, watch your mouth! Lol...free Finley? He loves his boys. They play well together. Do you demean Stockton's career because he didn't win a title? Nope. He's not a failure because they didn't win a title. And here's a hint....Nowitzki's just 25 (barely). He's got some years left. He'll get better. And as for Finley being wasted...is a 60-win season a waste? WCF a waste? Playing with some of the most talented players, including a point guard second only to Jason Kidd a waste? I think not.
(And before you say they didn't win a championship, only one team does...out of 29...for a winner there has to be a runner up, and I consider that the Mavs, not the Nets...)

Let's face it...what's not to like about playing in Dallas? You have probably the most generous, dedicated owner in the game...hell, he even has special cushions on the locker room chairs. They've got an elite program now and the city is a great place to live. I'm sure none of those players really want to leave. Now, they probably might not mind a defensive strategy change, maybe some might even want a coaching change, who knows...but, if I'm an NBA baller that'd be one of my top destinations to play as long as Mark Cuban is paying the checks.

Bingo, Grande. The players, owner, coaches, probably even the towel boys have an incredible bond. They hang out outside of games and practice. And yes, Cuban takes great care of them...flatscreens in their locker, frivolous stuff like that, but he and Nellie also have healthy, nutritious food catered for them that they can take home, because as they've said, they don't want these guys stopping at Burger King on the way home or something. Why would you want to leave dedication like that? Maybe if it was the Nuggets...the Mavs may not be the best, but they're not the nuggets. They're a 60-win team who is STILL improving every year. Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.
Well said Grande. By the way, I thought Cook was taken by LAL. I agree with NZ and sysiphos.

We can argue this to death, but as an unbiased outsider with no reason to talk-down (or talk-up) the current Mavs, I'd be much more worried about the Mavs with Jermaine O'Neal. They have more than enough outside threats to makeup for the loss of _irk, and they'd add their first legitimate inside threat, and they'd add an anchor for their interior defense. They'd be a much better team with _irk in my opinion.

They'd be better defensively maybe. But you're taking away 25 ppg and 10 rpg. I think it's something you need to add to, not taking Dirk away. He may suck as a defender, but that doesn't mean he isn't freakin awesome offensively.

TexasBlue, but those stats of Dirk's would be made up elsewhere. I agree with VWolf and I love the Spurs fans/Mavs fans debate. You're right, they made up for it without him more than once this season. But I just don't think that it's right to demean what Dirk can do because he can't defend. There are defensive players who don't get crap for not being able to buy a bucket, but because Dirk can't defend he's been labled by some a worthless athlete.

I don't think people are labling Dirk "worthless", but the comments are made in response to those who think he is an MVP caliber player - he clearly isn't. Dirk does what he does well, but if he wants to be mentioned with Duncan, Shaq, KG and Kobe he needs to become a more well rounded player. He won't be considered among the most elite players until he can do that.

"..the crownless again shall be king."-LOTR
