Simple- J.O'Neal or Kidd?

If Kidd comes, the Spurs won't have to worry about finding the money to pay Tony. He'll play out the remainder of his rookie contract and walk.

Why would he re-up with the team knowing that Kidd would still have a few years left on his contract? Also, by the time Tony's rookie contract is up, Kidd and Duncan will each be making about $14-15 million a year. How much will the team be willing to pay for a backup point guard? And a backup is precisely what Tony is gonna be. Forget the talk of a Kidd-Parker starting backcourt. Longterm, that backcourt won't get it done.

Stay with the Spurs and be Kidd's caddie, or go start for another team (probably for more money)?

You're absolutely right about Tony leaving after his rookie contract is up Captain Late. It would be a huge insult to lead your team to 60 wins and a championship and then get benched in favor of the point guard you ran circles around for the first three games of the series.

MFD, Tony could have as many as three rings by the time his rookie contract is up. That's a pretty impressive collection right there.

Maybe you know Tony better than I do, but most players, American or otherwise, have enough pride to want to be paid what they're worth. Do you think Tim is selfish for expecting a max contract? I have no reason to believer Tony is any more selfless than any other NBA player.

Quote:
It would be a huge insult to lead your team to 60 wins and a championship

Yeah, good thing for Tony he didn't lead the team to 60 wins and a championship, or we'd be in trouble. Tim Duncan dragged TP to a championship. TP was stumbling quite a bit all throughout the playoffs. It was a good game, bad game...game.
Quote:
I have no reason to believer Tony is any more selfless than any other NBA player

I do. The way he talks reveals the way he thinks. He loves playing with Tim and any player would be ST00PIT to voluntarily leave a team with Tim on it. Most players would try to get ON his team, not leave it.
--
There are three players in this league that make their team mates look like allstars:

1. Tim Duncan
2. Shaq
3. Jason Kidd

Imagine having two of them! Kidd running the break with Manu, Tony and Jack. Manu and Tony don't suit the half court game and yet they played well enough to survive. With Kidd you have both. Manu would be scoring 20 points a game with Kidd.

Brand is my first choice and then O'neal and Kidd are equal second, although I think we we will end up with PJ Brown and someone else other than Maggette.

How good did Jason Kidd make his teammates look in Phoenix? Heck, how good did he make them look in New Jersey, in the Finals.

Imagine Jason Kidd throwing up brick after brick, and then just left alone while the other team constantly doubles down on Timmy. Yeah, that'll make Timmy look good. We need scoring, and we need a defensive rebounding center. Jason Kidd can't shoot, and last time I checked he was a bit short for the center in the western conference.

Don't forget, Tony Parker ran rings around Kidd for the first few games of the Finals. Kidd managed to have, what, two good games the whole series? When he was throwing big assists, the thing everyone says he's so good at, his team lost. They won when we fell down on the job and he managed to throw up enough balls to score 30+ points. He was more inconsistent than Tony was.

Vastly overrated player. I want no part of him.

We have always had problems with the other members of the team scoring. When they went flat Duncan was usually the only one that kept us in the game. We are a little better now with the players and that includes TP. It doesn't matter how well you distribute the ball if the players can't make their shots. Kidd is not a shooter, Parker is.

I know TP had problems in the last game, but I attribute that to two reasons. One is that he is still only 21, in fact he had just recently turned 21 at the time. Two is that people just continued to pressure him with the Kidd thing. I think he held up well but the pressure of the whole thing finally got to him. I don't see that as being a problem again. Especially id we do not get Kidd.
Don't kidd yourselves. We don't need Jason. We have 1 very young guard who shows he can improve from the last year. We also have a back-up for him (at the present) and hopefully he'll stay in SA.
We also need to look to next year when Manu is going to need to be re-signed.Keep some money for that, he 'll deserve it.
Another problem is Stephen Jackson, I'd like to see him stay for at least 3 more years. Hopefully he'll mature more over the summer.

Maybe we can re-sign Kevin for for 2 more yrs at the 1-2 mil. range, and GET J ONEAL!!!!!!

My best-case lineup for next season:

PG: Parker, Claxton, Kerr
SG: Ginobili, Jackson (can play SF)
SF: Bowen (can play SG)
PF: Duncan, Rose, Scola
C: Willis

They need 2 more players. Who's it gonna be?

Priority 1. Reserving enough space to keep Ginobili next year.

Priority 2. Showing loyalty to the guys that got it done this year (Claxton, Jackson, Willis, Kerr)

Priority 3. Filling David Robinson's void.

Where does Jason Kidd fit in here?
Bring back those 4 guys and you'll have 9 guys with rings on a 12-man roster....going for a repeat!

The other 2 could be mid-level contracts or a big one-year deal and a scrub.

I think he would be worth taking a chance on for a cheap, one-year deal. make him prove he's worth something first.
