Jefferson was MIA for most of the series against us. So was KMart. 3 of 23 in the final elimination game? I'd hate to see how he performs when Kidd isn't making him better. <br>

A point guard who averages around 4 assists per game because he plays more like a shooting guard or the best point guard in the NBA who looks to get his teammates going and enjoys dishing out about 8 assists per game or more? And what need would JO'Neal or Elton "season-ending knee injury/surgery" Brand fill if they came? Neither of them can guard Smaq half as good as DRob did. Face it. Replacing the Admiral is impossible. The best we can hope for is to get Kidd AND sign a Brad Miller to "help" inside and use up his foul quota. You are not going to replace DRob, you are only going to find the best replcement you can (which may in fact be better than he has been the last few years).<br>

I do not look at finding someone that can guard Shaq, I look for someone that can best fill that position and provide the most help for the team. Kidd ain't it.<br>

The point guard who averages a lot more points, and is an actual outside threat who takes the heat off Duncan.<br>

Duncan is our point. He leads in assists many nights. Our style also requires <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>everyone</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> to have assists. Many nights, one would see on the box score that 6-8 players had 2 or more assists. That's our style.<br>

How exactly is Kidd going to "get his teammates going" when his bad shooting allows teams the easy double on our primary scorer? We've been there, done that, got beat doing that.<br>

BTW, I think Kidd would defend Shaq much worse than any of the players you listed. <p></p><i></i>

Redefine the primary historical role of the main ball-handler in basketball(point guard) just because TP is too young or his confidence isn't there or he simply doesn't have good enough court vision to find the open man? Point guards pass. Shooting guards score. TP is a short 2-guard and the reason for the erratic play and lost 20-pt leads was hinged on how Tony played on any given night. Regardless of how the Spurs rely on Duncan, the point guard is still the primary offensive "quarterback", so to speak, and Jason Kidd is much better at that than Tony Parker. <p>--<br>

That's our system, and it's won us a championship. So we should just jettison it and totally rework it to fit an aging point guard who still can't get his team a ring?<br>

How about instead we beef up the middle, since point guard play in the West isn't the big concern? Parker did just fine getting us to the Finals. If Parker was a free agent, I could see weighing the options, but are you going to bench Parker after he's started for two years? May as well just waive him at that point. His career will be effectively over. Nobody can handle that kind of ego blow.<br>

Would you have traded David Robinson and Tony Parker for Jason Kidd? Because that's effectively what we would be doing by signing Kidd. We're not replacing DRob, and we're losing TP, and then adding Kidd.<br>

Again, when Jason Kidd proves he can at least attempt to guard Shaq and Webber and Garnett, I'll be happy to have him. Until then, he's just another point guard who hasn't managed to win anything. <p></p><i></i>
