Simple- J.O'Neal or Kidd?

Simple- J.O'Neal or Kidd?

Postby Benito69 on Fri Jun 27, 2003 2:43 pm

I know folks have talked about this on various threads, but I wanted to just boil it down- if you had your choice, who would you take?

To me, I cannot understand how there can be any doubt...Kidd is in his 30's, and we already have a great (and much younger with more potential) PG with Parket...In fact, considering Duncan could really play the 4 or 5, PG is basically the ONLY position we are truly set at!

O'Neal, on the other hand, is EXACTLY what we need- young, athletic big-man...He and Duncan together would be SCARY!

O'NEAL!!!!! (I only hope we can get him, and it looks like it will be tougher, but in my mind this should be our absolute #1 focus...Forget Kidd, and go Balls-out for O'Neal...

Your thoughts?
I am not totally sold on O'niel or Kidd, but Jermaine would be the better option of the two.

"..the crownless again shall be king."-LOTR

Not sure about that statement on parker , if that were ture he would be the caliber of David or Tim !

But i do think he is good enough and will get better , that being said i would keep parker and take O'neal

"Return to Glory"

Follow-up: my "with more potential" comment was on Parker...Think about it- Parker is only 21, and going to get better and better over the next several years- probably half-a-dozen years away from reaching his prime! Kidd, on the other hand, is a great PG, but he's at his prime now, and will start going downhill soon (so much of their games are based on quickness, at 31 Kidd's best years are behind him, Parker's best years are in front of him!

As for O'Neal, I think his potential is also pretty amazing- only 24, has gotten better every year, and could one day be a true superstar (if he isn't one already, he's pretty darn close...)

A simple spartan reply of neither.

My wish list:
1 tie Brad Miller
1 tie 'Zo
3 Brand
4 Rasho Nesterovic
5 PJ Brown

Starting guards
1 SJax
2 Payton

Back up bigs
1 Willis
2 Keon Clark

Back up guards
1 Speedy
2 Kerr
3 Devin Brown
4 Piatkowski
Something we all have missed, I think:

We don't need to replace David Robinson the MVP, we need to replace David Robinson of the last two years. Which means a good rebounder and great defender who can give us @ 20 minutes a game.

If we get more than that, it's pure gravy. Let's face it, we won the championship without a second star. And honestly, I think we're going to grow our stars. Our Big Three for the future is likely to be Duncan, Parker, and Manu. Shouldn't we be putting some salary cap room aside to pay the big contracts TP and Manu will be able to command soon?

My biggest issue with Brad Miller is that he averaged less than a block per game, as a seven footer in the lEastern Conference. Not good. It's possible he wasn't in a system that would feed him blocks, however. Duncan and DRob got so many blocks in part because Pop's system has the perimeter defenders funneling their guys into the middle, so it could be that Miller would work nicely.

With TP being a big scorer (and only getting better), and Manu coming into his own after fully healing and getting used to the NBA, do we really need a second big scorer, or is a rebounder/shot blocker not more important? Heck, at this point I wonder if Keon Clark wouldn't be a great fit. Isn't he a FA this year?

Keon Clark has a player option for one more season with the Kings. The option would pay him something like $5M -- more than I think he'd get in the open market -- so he will probably remain in Sacramento next season.

All in all I think we should get J.O. I think we are set at the 1 if the spurs want to go look for a big man. So O'Neal is my man on this!
"The End Is only The Beginning"- Unknown

I don't think it comes down to who we want, it's who wants to come here. Everyone would love JO'Neal to come because that means we keep speedy and parker, and because the Center pisition is offically vacant.

But thats not the case

All indications seem that Oneal will stay in Indiana and that the Spurs are courting Kidd already....

so no matter how many logicaly sound arguments you can through, this is the way it's looking....

If we want a great rebounder, defender and can play over 20 minutes a game then O'Neal is the man, not Kidd.
