Raised in France, Tony Parker broke into the NBA in 2001 at age 19, after making a name for himself on the French junior national team. Not that he’s all French. His father, who’s American, played college ball at Loyola in Chicago and then professionally overseas. His mother, who’s Dutch, was a fashion model. Parker has learned from both of them, managing to score impressively both on and off the court.

Since you’re doing a fashion story for GQ, I want to know one thing: Who the hell dresses Tim Duncan? What’s his problem?

It’s clear he doesn’t dress up. He never cuts his hair. You could safely say he’s not the most fashion-conscious person. Maybe he’s going more for that au naturel thing, that roots thing. I don’t know. But he definitely doesn’t know how to dress, that’s for sure. [laughs] The best-dressed player on the team without a doubt is Bruce Bowen. He’s always wearing suits, and he gets on me all the time about my style. My first year in the NBA, I was always wearing jeans. Bruce took me aside and bought me ten suits, full ensembles, you know, with the shirts and everything.

Do the guys on the team dog you for caring about your personal style? Like being on People’s 50 Most Beautiful People list?

First of all, that was two years ago, I think—2003. But for a year, yeah, it was tough.

They still call you pretty boy?

Still do. Pop [Spurs coach Gregg Popovich] always kids me in practice and tells the guys they shouldn’t hit me hard or hurt my face. Still ragging, you know.

You’re dating Eva Longoria these days. Does she dress you?

Eva chooses. Or her stylist does. It depends. [laughs]

Eva told me you guys met in the locker room after a Spurs game. Is that true?

We actually met in the shower. [laughs]

I don’t think people in France understand how big the show is in the States.

It’s true, they don’t, but it’s starting this fall over here in France, so soon they will.

Do you think your popularity in America is helped by the fact that your name is Tony and not something like Jean-Philippe?

I think so. I mean, nobody in the States had any idea I was from France at the beginning. They were sure I was American. It was a while before people caught on that I was fifty-fifty.

Since we’ve been speaking French, I can’t tell if you have an accent when you speak English.

Those suits are really nasty looking for being like 3 grand. They are also way too small. I do like the comment about meeting Eva in the shower though. Nice!

Silver and Black Baby

You have to remember this is high fashion and a very European look......

Personally I think he looked great - Tony is very photogenic.

I think those suits look great. Very modern, very GQ.

I loved the black suit with the pink shirt, I can honestly say he looks amazing in that shot, that HUGE cleft on his chin, tasty......

You know who use to dress absolutely faboulous and very GQ was JR. Reid, he dressed incredible.

OMG, I'M A SIXTH MAN NOW???? Augh! Gameface, you shouldn't have posted the pictures. I didn't want to see them. I'm not a slave to fashion, nor do I ever want to be. Looking at guys in fancy threads isn't for me.

LOL!
