Value of Kidd: Waking up from a dream

Here is the problem with trying to sign O'Neal next summer. Both Tim and O'Neal prefer to play the 4 spot. So it may be hard to convince O'Neal to leave Indiana. Indiana can pay him a bit more and guarantee him the starting 4 spot.
Hey man, how ya been!? Didn´t know that about Jermaine O´Neal. I thought he was a center. However, down in Brazil I rarely get to catch Indiana games, which means never!
"David Robinson represents everything that is good in the world, and everything that is good in the world of sports," former NBA star and current NBC commentator Bill Walton said. "We can never thank him enough for his leadership. Everything he did represents the great values you look for in a human being. We are going to miss him terribly."

Are there any decent Centers that are free agents either this year or next? What about the draft? I read somewhere there is a kid playing center in college that is from ST Criox same as TD that is supposed to be good. Does anyone know who is he is or when he will enter the draft?

Quote:
Trading Tony Parker may not help either. Due to Parker?s rookie contract he doesn?t make enough for the Spurs to receive anything of value in return. - MrCarmenE

This is an important point and shouldn't be overlooked. A rookie that is good enough to start is a financial bonanza for any team. But his main worth is in his playing contribution to the team. There is little trade benfit to be had unless you're trading for another rookie or a deep-on-the-bench player.

The Spurs couldn't begin to trade him for an equal caliber player because he is worth much more than his rookie salary. To lose Tony to free agency would give us little cap freedom. To trade Tony for an equal salaried player would be trading diamonds for dust.

If the Spurs sign Kidd in '03 we can kiss Tony good-bye in '04. Even if the sun rose in the south one day and Tony and Kidd liked playing together, the Spurs couldn't afford to pay both of them, Tim, and another high quality swingman to help with scoring. Without going deeply into contracts and cap space, let's just say that the Spurs are not going to flirt with the luxury cap.

It looks like Tony has one more year to prove his worth (as if this past year wasn't enough!). Does all this talk about Kidd make him more determined, or does it shake his confidence? Does it inspire loyalty for this organization, or make him doubt its existence?

The whole idea that the Spurs would have make it to the Finals if Kidd had been playing along Duncan is bunk. Our point guard did a fine job. It was the shooting guard spot that was weak, and Kidd and his 37% shooting will do little to remedy that.
All excellent points. Here is the dilemma as I see it. Without a lottery pick or some kind of miracle, what are our chances for getting a good center? I am not a capologist or draft doctor so I would like input from those that are..............

Guys, you can´t become a Laker dynasty every year, or even a Spurs ´99 championship team. All you can do is count your blessings, protect them and do whatever the heck you can with your cap space. By no means should the Spurs consider ever trading Duncan, Rose or Parker as they are team icons. Sure, maybe Parker peaks and never improves and that´d be another story, but really, you´ll always have some cap space to go after another superstar. I´d never get rid of that core, though, no way. Those three guys are character guys, class guys and the new faces of the franchise:

Duncan the MVP
Parker the flashy Eurokid
Rose the Blue collar fan´s hero

Besides, only Duncan is a max out player. I don´t think Parker ever will be, although I think he´ll be a great PG.
"David Robinson represents everything that is good in the world, and everything that is good in the world of sports," former NBA star and current NBC commentator Bill Walton said. "We can never thank him enough for his leadership. Everything he did represents the great values you look for in a human being. We are going to miss him terribly."
