I just got home from the lunch.
The luncheon was very brief compared to last year.
There was no show like the one Brent put on. Supposedly, that is being saved for the Tux and Tennies gala.
The food was delicious- steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Yummy!
Dessert was cheesecake with whipped cream, fresh fruit, and the coolest mini chocolate trophy.
Sean Elliot was the emcee. Pop and Peter Holt addressed the crowd per usual.
They replayed footage from Game 4 of last season's finals. They also showed video highlighting all the Spurs community outreach.
Some fun moments with Sean:
He showed us his pictures from his trip to France this year for Eva and Tony's wedding.
Sean had talked up his exclusive pictures of the it couple and they turned out to all be of Sean and his wife rather than the Parkers.
Sean announced that the Spurs will retire Avery Johnson's jersey on December 22. This was met with applause from most of the crowd, although I booed. ( Not loudly but still.)
I was a little annoyed at Sean because he seemed to be just an Avery homer but then he said, " The Spurs need to put Avery's retired jersey right by the new championship banner so he'll know what he is missing."
Sean had earlier addressed Bruce. Sean asked Bruce if Bruce liked Sean's tie.
Bruce said that he did to which Sean retorted that, that meant he'd have to throw the tie out.
Robert Horry had some personal attendance to attend to and could not make the luncheon.
Personally, I believe he heard Misti was not going to be there and boycotted.
Pop picked on Beno- said he's not playing but he is dating.
The luncheon gift is super sweet. It is a writing pen that has attached to it a pull out schedule of the spurs season.
Wait till you see the picture!
The pens are supposedly limited edition items and were only to be made available today.
The players did not come on stage when they were introduced and the introductions were super short, basically name only.
However, when Manu came in he waved right in my general direction.
Matt Bonner has the biggest beard ever. I laughed because not a minute after I told my table that Matt was starting to remind me of Grizzly Adams, Sean introduced Matt and called him Grizzly Adams.
I called it.
Tony Parker looked very sharp today, his suit was especially nice I thought.
He was best dressed of the group as far as I saw.
( Sorry Beno!)
Tony was sitting at the player table closest to me, although I was several rows back from it.
Timmy was at that table too and I think Elson. I forget who else.
I took a picture with the Coyote. The trophies were available for people to purchase a picture with them.
Pop talked about Sam Presti being in Seattle now- said to heck with him and then laughed.
Silver Dancers were there. A lot of the Spurs executives were there. I know a lot of them from working in the Terrace Club restaurant.
Really there is not much else to report. The venue was nice. Service was excellent.
The event itself was too short for my taste, but I enjoyed all that was done.
Good times. _________________

I forgot to mention that the butter for the rolls was shaped like a large spur- very creative.
We took a picture of that as well as the dessert. _________________

The venue was better than last year at least there was carpet and clean restrooms, but teh presentation left a lot to be desired. I would have been happy if the players had at least gone to teh podium when introduced as in years past - instead they jstu stood up and waved and that was it.
They also did not have hte wheel this year - basically you pay 20 bucks and spin for a prize which is way better than a raffle b/c at least you get something for your money even if it is crappy tennis balls(my prize last year)....
we took tons of pics which kristen will hopefully load soon.
Speedy took his mom and sister so it was nice to have our table half full. _________________

I almost fell over laughing when Angel text'd me that Horry boycotted the luncheon because he found out I wasn't going.
Sorry I missed it but it doesn't sound like the show that we've gotten used to from years past. _________________

It was still a lot of fun and the food was really good but it was a little dissapointing to not really get to see the guys. I guess my expectations were that they would do like they did last year and do skits and stuff or at least really introduce them but they barely did anything. Well at least the food was really good and Manu at least waved at me today;) . Here's a few pictures from the luncheon. Here's a few pics from the luncheon for now.
Here's a snippet of Sean's pictures in France too. I didn't get all of it but I got a small little clip of it. But that's as far as it goes as for that:

No.
Sean said several times that they had striven to make the lunch brief.
I was wondering if maybe some of the corporate sponsors complained about the long show last year.
As a fan, I loved it, but there may be some business people who just want to go, have lunch, see and be seen, and leave. _________________
