HDTV advice

Postby Blondie on Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:52 pm

We have been looking at tvs and were wondering if the refresh rate (hz) makes a big difference, or not. For example, we found one at best buy that is 1080dpi and 120hz for a good price, but there are some that are 240hz...........I have read that when watching action or sports the lower numbers can be blurry. Any recommendations/advice would be welcome.........

In the store stand as far away from the set you are considering as you will be at home when you are watching TV. Do a bit of channel surfing (don't settle for some DVD they might have showing) until you find a show with some action that will test out what you want to see.

we ended up going with a panasonic 50'' plasma - it only had 720 dpi but looked just as good as the insiginia tv that had 1020dpi polus wiht the plasma you dont need to worry about the hz.....we did some research and read that for sports watching plasma is better PLUS it was $100 cheaper for a bigger tv.

We also ended up getting:
the blue ray wifi dvd player as well so we can stream video off of netflix
a soundbar that simulates surround sound and has an ipod dock
a really nice stand that the tv mounts to up higher

pics will soon follow :)

The whole bill with protection plan and tax was $1600 AND Best Buy has no interest for 18 months if you use your best buy card and make the minimum payment each month so its like layaway but you get it now . We were very happy with our experience - bought it all at the Legacy Oaks location. If anyone is in the market for a new home system I would highly recommend it.

I just bought a Toshiba 46" LCD last month. I was renting to own a 40" so this was an upgrade and I only spent $850 or so for it... its running 1080P and 240Hz... I noticed the sound is not as good but the blacks on this thing is of no comparison... next on my list is a sound bar :mhihi:

So, whens the next House GTG there B? lol
