NFL Draft anyone?

NFL Draft anyone?

Postby SpursFanInAK on Sun Apr 26, 2009 6:02 pm

Who'd your team get? I can't believe my Niners grabbed Michael Crabtree at #10.....I'm stoked!!!! Takes a bit of the sting away from the Spurs loss yesterday. For once my team actually drafts someone I want/have heard of. (Though Pat Willis was a damn good pick a few years back) Man Crabtree is a stud...easily the Niners best wideout since T.O. left.I'm excited for the NFL already. Oh yeah big thanks to Al Davis and the Faiders for passing on him at #7!

The Cowboys picked up some nice complimentary players. They don't have any glaring holes to fill, but they did need depth. They got that in the draft. They also needed help with special teams, an area that really killed them last year. They also addressed that in the draft. There's word going on that the kicker they got from USC might be on the punt coverage team. NOW THAT'S IMPRESSIVE! They also got a qb that they can mold and develop under the wing of Romo and Kitna in Stephen McGee. Overall not overly impressive, but then there wasn't a lot of holes to fill. Just backups and special teams. I'm pleased with how this draft went. Now hopefully they can get a veteran wide receiver to help out Roy Williams and the rest of the wide outs. I'm excited for next season. WOO! GO COWBOYS!

Yes Al Davis' time has passed. This isn't 70s football anymore but he seems determined to build the team like it is. That first round pick was insane, Crabtree would have been awesome, but as you mentioned he will be playing on the other side of the bay. I think Al just has a spreadsheet with all the 40 times listed and just drafts the quickest guy. We will see, maybe they know something we don't but he probably could have got his man at a later pick or at least traded down to get him. Now they are stuck paying him 7th overall money. Being a Spurs and a Raiders fan it is shocking to see how differently both franchises are run.

As far as the Cowboys go I was expecting them to get a wide out, didn't happen. Now like you said they are going to have to work a trade or find something in free agency. I don't think Roy Williams is a no. 1 reciever and even if he was they don't have anyone on the roster that is the quality of a no. 2 reciever. I guess at least they got rid of that cancer TO.

I was actually surprised they let TO go. I thought for sure they would give the Roy/TO tandem one year and see what happens. I guess Jerry didn't want TO's jealousy to get out of hand and kill another season. Jerry can't sit still with the receiver position as it is, he's always wanted two big time guys, so I'm pretty sure he's looking around. If only the NFL was more like fantasy football. :mhihi:

I really interested in seeing how the Cowboys respond this upcoming season. Now that TO is gone, all eyes will be on Tony Romo. There are now no excuses. If the team doesn't respond to Jerry Jones' satisfaction, then this may be Wade Philips' last season.

Now they have no excuse to fall back on either. They no longer can blame everything on T.O., so we'll see what happens from here.
