Spurs sweep Cavs; Claim 4th Championship
By:RynoSpursFan

June 14, 2007, a date that will forever solidify the place of the San Antonio Spurs in NBA History. The Spurs walked into Quicken Loans Arena that night to finish a mission they had started months ago. They walked out victorious, edging out the Cleveland Cavaliers 83-82. Completing a sweep of the Cavs to earn their fourth title in 9 years. This Championship puts the Spurs organization in some elite company. San Antonio is only the 4th franchise to ever win 4 titles. Robert Horry became the only non-Celtic to ever win 7 rings. And head coach Gregg Popovich became only the 5th coach in NBA history to guide his team to 4 titles.

The game was competitive almost all the way though. At one point the Spurs managed to build an 11-point lead. But to start the 4th quarter the Cavs went on a 11-0 run and eventually took a 63-60 lead on a shot from rookie, Daniel Gibson. Just as they did many times before in the playoffs, the Spurs would then fight back. Not only scoring and defending, but also controlling the clock and the tempo of the game.

With the game tied at 66 Tony Parker found Manu Ginobili open behind the three point line, manu nailed the shot to take a 69-66 lead. LeBron would then try to answer but rimed out a 3 of his own. With 4:05 left in the final quarter the Spurs began maybe the longest and most important possession of their entire season. First it was Fabricio Oberto getting an offensive rebound. Then LeBron James kicking the ball in an effort to avoid a corner 3 from Bruce as the shot clock was down. This reset the shot clock to 14. Tim Duncan then helped secure another offensive rebound by saving the ball from going out of bounds. The trip down the court would eventually end with an Oberto and1, and a 6-point lead with only 2:29 left on the clock. That’s right a 1-minuet and 36-second possession. Incredible.

Manu Ginobili lead the way scoring 27 points, 13 in the final quarter. Tony Parker took home MVP honors as he once again had a strong game with 24 points and 7 rebounds.

LeBron James put up decent numbers leading the Cavs with 24 points and 10 rebound but he was still clearly hampered by Bowen’s pesky defense shooting just 10 of 30 from the field.
