The Jazz and the Spurs have been the best teams in the NBA this season, on Wednesday they met in Salt Lake City – both having actually lost their previous games. Both San Antonio and Utah have been noted for playing exceptionally well this season. However, tonight the game mirrored a high school game rather than a match up of the western elites.

Both teams started the game sloppily; missed shots and turnovers seemed to be the only thing to mention for the first five minutes of the game. The Spurs were able to build a seven-point leader after one, not because of superior play but rather because Utah missed five lay-ups in the quarter.

The early second saw the Jazz cut San Antonio’s lead to one point a number of times, but Bruce Bowen’s back-to-back three pointers, with about 8 minutes to go, would give the Spurs a double digit lead. The Jazz however would come roaring back, behind Derek Fisher, and close to gap to two points at 39-37 going into the half.

The Second half saw Utah jump on the Spurs early, the first possession to be exact. Deron Williams three pointer less than a minute into the third would give the Jazz their first lead since they lead 5-4 with 10 minutes to go in the first quarter. Utah would continue to attack to the Spurs and build up a seven-point lead.

The two teams would teeter-totter back and fourth throughout the entire second half. The Spurs would take a three-point lead in the middle of the fourth but Utah’s rebounding would keep the Spurs from adding to their lead. In fact Utah out rebounded the Spurs 50-34.

The Jazz 83-75 victory over the Spurs is Utah’s first victory over the Spurs since April 2005, and Utah’s fourth victory over the Spurs since 2000. Carlos Boozer lead all scorers with 23 points and 10 rebounds, making this his 12th double-double of the season. The Spurs shot 24 three-pointers, making just eight, this would account for the discrepancy in free throw shooting which Utah lead 27 attempts to just 14 for the Spurs.

No, but we all know the Mavericks aren't as good as the Jazz and Spurs.
