Several web sites and wire services are reporting that the NBA has informed its players a lockout will begin at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Spurs forward Matt Bonner told Yahoo.com a new deal couldn’t be hammered out despite late work by the players’ union.

“We tried to avoid a lockout,” Bonner said. “Unfortunately we could not reach a deal.”

We’ll have much more on this throughout the day.

Well, looks like I'll be watching more college ball this winter.

Something had to give. Stern's favortism towards the Lakers for the last 12 years has been appauling, it's thrown his little baby over the cliff. They want all 30 teams to be competitive? Yah right, then quit letting the Lakers cheat. The heavily unbalanced Dwight Howard straight across trade for Andrew Bynum already had Stern's signature on it. Maybe having no more NBA can budge the Laker propoganda down a few notches?

New Orleans Hornets, good team, great city. FOR SALE. And outta all the rich tycoons on our planet, not one will venture into Stern's little happy Laker fun place.

My guess would be none. They are fighting over how big their piece of the pie is. Nobody have any motivation to make the pie any smaller.

I was watching a segment of the Sports Reporters and they had a good point about Stern's legacy.
All the good work he has done promoting the league for a global market will all be for nothing.

That pump fist between Stern and Cuban is simply disgusting, makes me puke.
And yes, Toby has a good point about Stern's Laker love.

I recall a good Kenny Smith article from his column in SLAM magazine (couple of years ago)
He gave a short summary of expenses and debts NBA-players have to deal with when they get the big contracts.
Buy a house for mom, brother & sister, buy cars for em too. Jewelry-watches, expensive clothing, betting, bad investments,
agent fees, broker fees,...
You can get rich quick, but you also have to take care of debts that come with that.

Just as NBA owners should be responsible for the huge contracts they hand out. But no, they give scrubs huge deals then whine later that they are losing money.
