Spurs present two offer sheets; Javtokas headed back to Europe

The San Antonio Spurs made offers to two restricted free agents this morning, and will not have the services of 2001 draft pick Robertas Javtokas for the upcoming season. 
 
Javtokas' agent Herb Rudoy told News 4 WOAI that the Spurs made offers to New York's Jackie Butler and Denver's Francisco Elson. 
 
Javtokas immediately signed a deal to play with Panathinaikos Greece in the European League. Rudoy told News 4 that Javtokas was "surprised" at the Spurs decision, but that he got a great contract from Panathinaikos. 
 
Butler is a 2 year NBA Veteran who averaged 5.3 points last year with the New York Knicks. He's only 21 years old and played in the CBA for one year before going to the Knicks. He went undrafted after declaring for the draft after his final year at Coastal Christian Academy in Virginia. Butler is 6-10 260 pounds. 
 
Elson is a 4 year NBA veteran who also played 4 seasons in Spain before coming to the NBA. He averaged 4.9 points for the Nuggets last season. 
 
NBA rules state that both the Nuggets and the Knicks will have seven days to match the Spurs offer. If the offers are matched they can retain the services of those players. Tune into News 4 WOAI at 5pm and 6pm for the latest Spurs News. <hr></blockquote>

Ok now I am really starting to get worried, I thought Javtokas was a lock to sign with the Spurs this season, I'm not trying to over hype him or anything but he would have brought toughness, rebounding, and shot blocking to the Center position which we were missing last season.

If the Spurs get both Butler and Elson, then they made the right decision leaving Javtokas in Europe. If they just get one of them then it's a little questionable, but we'll still have Oberto for depth. If they get neither of them, then the Spurs are in deep doo-doo.

I don't think we will get Butler, but I think Elson is a good possiblity with all the money Denver has tied up in their bigs; Camby, Nene, K Mart and wanting to retain Evans. If the Nuggets match I wonder if the Spurs would concider going after Evans? <div style="text-align:center">

I think Denver will let Elson go because they are stacked with big man with Nene,Camby,Martin and Evans.

Sounds like either they haven't offered him a contract or he wants a chunk of the MLE, which the Spurs would rather give to Butler and Elson. <div style="text-align:center">

These two guys don't exactly have a great track record. What have they done, exactly, to earn our trust? The Spurs have "clearly" lost their way. I'm not unaware of the front offices "track record" but even you must admit, Pitter, that the guys they are now being forced to look at for center are a huge downgrade over what we had last year.

These guys will give us what Nazar and rasho did for about 15 million less. 
 
Wilcox has had 27 games where he put up good numbers he is not worth the 10 million a year he is asking. I like to see a full year of production from him at that level not 29 games (I am getting jerome James Playoff run syndrome here) 
 
One guy is 21 years old young and can be groomed 
 
Now I hope we still add a young wing guy

I agree with 1kangaroo about the price tags on these two vs Nazr and Rasho. 
 
As for Pop and RC not having a good track record? I'm sorry, but I see 3 NBA Championship banners on my wall here - I'd call that a GREAT track record.... <div style="text-align:center">
