After weeks of hearing his name in the trade winds, Tony Parker told a French newspaper he's confident he will remain in San Antonio. For now. “I talked with Pop, he told me that I'm not going anywhere,” Parker told L'Equipe earlier this week. Parker mentioned Portland and New York as two possible trade partners that the Spurs turned down. With a contract set to expire at the end of next season, which will be his 10th in San Antonio, Parker couldn't promise he would be with the Spurs past that. “It would be ... maybe a good challenge for me to go elsewhere,” Parker told the newspaper. “If I leave, I can make another career — eight, nine years in a different club.” San Antonio Express-News

Matt Bonner, Roger Mason Jr., Keith Bogans and Ian Mahinmi had their contracts expire at 11:01 p.m. CDT, as free agency's opening bell sounded. Of those four, only Bonner stands a significant chance of coming back. The Spurs value his unique skill set as a 3-point shooting center/forward, which they could be hard-pressed to find on the free-agent market. Bonner's agent, Kenny Grant, said formal talks with the Spurs have not yet begun, but he expects them to start soon. “Matt wants to be a Spur, and I'd imagine they want him back, too,” Grant said. Coming off such a disappointing season, Jefferson likely won't be able to earn all of the money he left on the table back in a single season, but as he told FanHouse's Chris Tomasson in April, he hopes a temporary pay cut will result in long-term security. "I probably wouldn't make 15 [million dollars] some place, but you could somehow recoup some of that over a multi-year deal and get some guaranteed money for the next few years," he said. "So you figure it out. If you're able to get four years and 40 [million dollars by opting out] from someone, it's like, 'OK, I did lose out on 15 [million dollars]. But I'm going to get basically a $25 million extension.' Those are things that you think of at the end of the season.''FanHouse.com

One individual close to situation believes most likely scenario Richard Jefferson re-signs with SA for less money next year but multi years. Twitter

Former Spurs point guard Jacque Vaughn is expected to serve as an assistant coach for the team's summer league squad next month in Las Vegas, an endeavor he might hope to parlay into a full-time gig next season. The Spurs are in search of a replacement for long-time assistant coach/head video coordinator James Borrego, who left after seven seasons to join Monty Williams' new staff in New Orleans. Vaughn, who spent the final three of his 12 seasons with the Spurs, retired after the 2008-09 campaign. He has long been held in high esteem by coach Gregg Popovich, who has called Vaughn prime coaching material. San Antonio Express-News

Richard Jefferson’s decision to opt out of the final $15 million season of his contract might not be a sign he’s willing to leave the San Antonio Spurs. Sources said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has been personally working out Jefferson in San Antonio. The free-agent forward could re-sign with the team at a number that lowers the franchise’s luxury-tax hit while guaranteeing him more money on the back end of a multiyear contract.Yahoo! Sports

Jeff McDonald: Now hearing most likely scenario is RJ returning to #spurs at a more palatable contract. Stay tuned ... Twitter

This is kinda cool....do we have another "Avery Johnson" on our hands? I wouldn't mind seeing Vaughn back in a coaching capacity - he is a good guy and has a great basketball IQ.

The rumors of RJ actually opting out for a smaller contract are getting serious. He might be a nice guy after all?

It has been you and me saying the same thing for some time now Blondie. I do not know when the Spurs are going to wake up and get some value back because they need to do that ASAP.
