Spurs sign point guard Jacque Vaughn

The Spurs extended offers to both Elson and Butler in part because they were unable to reach agreement with former second-round pick Robertas Javtokas. Javtokas is preparing to play in Greece, but the Spurs haven’t given up hope they will be able to resume negotiations with him, if needed.<br>

Vaughn, who signed a one-year contract for the league minimum, will compete with Beno Udrih for the back up PG spot<hr></blockquote><br>

Yeah Ace that is how I read that too. I would imagine his agent is asking for more than a minimum contract now that the FA center pool is so depleated. Jacque Vaughn should give Beno a run for his money at the backup point. <p><div style="text-align:center"><br>

Vaughn is a solid backup. he's a quick, smart guard who should fit nicly with the Spurs. plus he has finals experience. <br>

honestly I think Denver and New York will match you guys. I don't like Elison. I've seen him play and he isnt that great, yet in his mind he is a superstar. Its just his shooting I am concerned about. I already spent all last year cringing everytime Nick "the not so Quick" jacked up a shot. I don't want to be doing that again in 06/07. <p><div style="text-align:center"><br>

I think Vaughn will be a nice fit for the backup PG.<br>

I doubt it at this point but things may change if they are unable to sign Butler and Elson. It is still unclear if they have even signed an offer sheet or if the Spurs just are presenting them with one, there may be several teams that are doing the latter. <p><div style="text-align:center"><br>

Vaughn is a pop kind of player. He's not a sexy player... just very stable and smart. He's a former first round pick who is a "true" point guard. Considering the options available. I think this is as solid of a signing as anyone for back-up PG. <p></p><i></i>

He's a pass-first guy who cannot hit the perimeter shot. I just hope he's our third string. He should do a good job there, but as a second string I'm worried about the fact that his man can just leave him alone and go bother Tim or Manu. <p></p><i></i>
