Iverson reportedly skipped Sixers appearance
Allen Iverson, the NBA's leading scorer, will be fined by the Philadelphia 76ers for missing a "mandatory" team function Wednesday night, according to several Philadelphia media outlets.
According to reports, Iverson, the 76ers' captain, was the only player on the team to fail to appear at a meet-and-greet event attended by 300 corporate sponsors and premium-seat ticket holders at an area bowling and entertainment center.
Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks confirmed that Iverson missed the event, and said he "will be fined accordingly.''
"We would have liked him to be there, but he wasn't, and that was his choice," Cheeks told the Philadelphia Daily News. "I can't speculate on why he wasn't there, but he wasn't there."
Iverson leads the NBA in scoring at 31.7 points per game. He scored 45 points in 48 minutes in Monday night's loss to the Heat, taking a season-high 37 shots from the field.
He left practice early Wednesday, but Cheeks said later that it was because he felt fatigued.
