^^^ They don't do that in France? I never really think about it, it's just so much a part of the game for us.

in france the national anthem is just for the cup or championship (for basket) finals (with the president to share the hands) and for national team
in europe, we never heard national anthem for championship games or for european league's

It's a misinformed gesture by very misinformed people. Team USA is a "basketball team" playing a "game"! They're not soldiers. These guys are not putting their lives on the line for anything. This is a cheap photo op by millionaire basketball stars who thrive on attention. Very disrespectful, IMHO. I saw one highlight video of LeBron saluting after a slam dunk. I hate that kind of s***.

They should read this:

The Salute

To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.

Eh, the uniform means a military service uniform not a basketball jersey and shorts. Lose the headbands too, please.........

They started the salute in the exhibition games in Vegas when they brought in a bunch of military to watch the game. They spent a lot of time with the soldiers and other military personnel and did the salute as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation toward them. Saluting in the games after a good play with as an acknowledgement to those military men and women. It wasn't as a cheap photo op.

I don't see how it can be construed as a bad thing.
