2008 NBA Draft Profiles

Postby ryno on Thu May 29, 2008 11:13 pm

Well the Season is done but the Spurs work on being the best franchise in professional Sports continues. The Spurs will make some adjustments and try to get back ahead of the Lakers. One of those adjustments is clearly getting younger, injecting some youth into this veteran lineup. Barring trades Duncan, Parker, Manu, Udoka, Brent, Matt Bonner, Bruce Bowen, and Jacque Vaughn will likely be back. First round draft pick in 2005 Ian Mahinmi will also likely get some time with the Major league squad next year as well.

The Spurs have an opportunity to improve this team and their future through the draft. They hold the 26th pick in the first round, the 15th pick in the second round (from Toronto) and the 27th pick in the second round. Who should they pick? Who will they pick?

As far as the second round picks go I think it is likely that they will be traded for future second round picks or spent on long shots that they can stash away overseas in hope of Manu Ginobili like development.

The first round pick brings more of a possible immediate impact. There is almost always a good player that slips to the second round. The Spurs have an opportunity to take him in the first. Lets hope Pop, RC and the rest of the scouting crew can pick us another winner like Tony Parker.

The 2008 NBA draft will be held Thursday June 26th.

What happened to Marcus Williams? He got released and then signed with the Clippers. Was he a complete bust or what?

I don't think Marcus Williams work ethic and personality fit the Spurs. I watched him play in some pre-season games and his shot was pretty bad to say the least.

Local Raleigh news is saying that the Spurs are giving Danny Green a pre draft workout. He does not have a agent yet but the scoop is if he doesn't go 1st round he will go back to Carolina

Thanks for posting the Draft Profile of Danny Green Spurs Nation. He seems to be a well rounded player and the Spurs desperately need some youth at the wings. Tar Heels seem to transition to the NBA well too so I could see him having success in the right situation.

It will be interesting to see if he stays in the draft.

Green fell on his face at the pre-draft camps. He's be returning to school sooner than later.

epn's chad ford has the spurs taking Mario Chalmers with the 26th pick.

Position: PG
Height: 6-2
Weight: 170
Age: 22
School: Kansas

The skinny: We've had an international player here in the last two mock drafts, but after the Spurs lost Luis Scola and might lose Tiago Splitter because of money issues, they may finally go in a different direction.

The team has needed a solid backup point guard, and Mario Chalmers has all the qualities the Spurs look for in a player -- toughness, defense and a winning pedigree.

26. San Antonio Spurs Darrell Arthur 6′9″ Power Forward Kansas - San Antonio Coach Greg Popovich deserves praise for the tremendous mileage he gets out of the Spurs power forward position. Sure it helps that NBA all-time great Tim Duncan mans the middle, but the tri-headed four-slot consisted of the aging but effective Robert Horry, trade addition Kurt Thomas and a lanky Fabricio Oberto. Readers, don’t get it tangled, Duncan is designated a forward on paper only to escape the ballot stuffing power of fellow Western Conference center Yao Ming during All-Star voting. Anyway, Arthur has the championship background the Spurs organization elites prefer. Arthur has an exorbitance of post play skills that can continue the excellence of the Spurs’ NBA dominance.

Darrell Arthur - Current Team: Kansas, Sophomore
Physicals:
H: 6' 9"
W: 215 lbs
Bday: 11/10/1987
(20 Years Old)

Comparisons:
Best Case: Antonio McDyess
Worst Case: Josh Powell

Strengths:

• Athleticism
• Scoring mentality
• Hands
• Ability to score in the paint
• Transition play/Running the floor
• Turnaround jumper
• Budding skills facing the basket
• Excellent lateral quickness
• Solid all-around defender
• Upside

Weaknesses:

• Toughness/Intensity
• Basketball IQ/Experience
• Consistent focus
• Passing ability
• Ability to finish with left hand
• Shot-selection
• Ball-handling/Perimeter shooting polish
• Finishing strong/Not fading away
• Strength
• Consistency
