Cavs strike deal for Wizards’ Jamison

Cavs strike deal for Wizards’ Jamison

Postby SpursFanIsrael on Thu Feb 18, 2010 2:57 am

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached agreement on a six-player, three-team trade that lands them former All-Star forward Antawn Jamison(notes), league sources with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

The Cavaliers are sending center Zydrunas Ilgauskas,(notes) a first-round pick and the draft rights to Emir Preldzic to the Wizards. The Wizards also will receive Al Thornton(notes) from the Los Angeles Clippers. The Cavaliers will get point guard Sebastian Telfair(notes) from the Clippers. The Wizards will send Drew Gooden(notes) to the Clippers.

If the Wizards and Ilgauskas agree on a buyout, the veteran center can re-sign with the Cavaliers after 30 days.

There’s also no assurance Gooden will take a Clippers buyout with several teams, including Chicago, Milwaukee and Charlotte – interested in trading for him, a source says. If he works a buyout with the Clippers, he could return to the Mavericks after the 30-day waiting period. Gooden was traded from the Mavericks to Washington earlier this week.

The Cavaliers’ decision to acquire Jamison came a day after talks between the teams intensified and shortly after the Phoenix Suns informed Cleveland its offer for Amar’e Stoudemire – Ilgauskas, J.J. Hickson, Danny Green and a first-round pick – wasn’t good enough.

One source with knowledge of the Suns’ talks said none of Phoenix’s trade options looked close – and that the Suns have not ruled out keeping Stoudemire past Thursday’s deadline.

The source said the Miami Heat also haven’t come close to putting together an enticing offer for Stoudemire.

Phoenix “might still do [a trade],” the source said, “but if there is one, it won’t be done until the 11th hour.”

Yahoo! Sports NBA reporter Marc J. Spears contributed to this report.

I think Jamison went 0 for 12 in his debut.

Yeah, but he got a poster dunk over David West after a LeBron assist.
Great performance by Thornton.
It took the Cavs late in the 4th to put the game away.
I saw Shaq really getting hacked at Boston.
