Draft Prospect: Dominic McGuire

This junior out of Fresno State is a very athletic wing player that will likely play small forward in the NBA. He was a junior but is the age of a senior because he sat out one season in college to transfer from Cal to Fresno State. He has an impressive wing span and is very athletic. He moves well on defense and has good court vision. He needs to work on his outside shot, and his ball handling. He averaged an impressive 9.8 rebounds a game last year using his athletic ability to take the ball away from bigger players. He might be a good player to have on the court should Pop want to play small ball. Could he be the long athletic 3 we have been looking to get for so long?

The following is his profile on NBADraft.net:

Strengths: Wing forward with a tremendous wingspan and the physical specimen type of athleticism to stand out on the NBA level … Improved considerably in his junior year following his transfer from Cal … Has great versatility with the ability to handle the ball and pass, as well as the strength and athleticism to be a factor on the boards … An above average passer for a small forward. Averaged 3.3 assists per game … Has even shown the ability to play point forward in practice … Really excels on the boards, averaging close to 10 rpg … Very strong defensively. Averaged close to 4 blocks per game … Offensive skills have improved considerably since his days at Cal … Came on strong at the end of the season, putting up numerous double doubles including a triple double in their final game …

Weaknesses: Though he’s already the age of a senior, his skills lack polish … His shooting ability is poor, and his offensive game remains underdeveloped … Lacks range on his shot and struggles to convert from behind the line … Likely won’t ever be a prolific scorer but brings a number of other attributes to the table … Needs to tighten up his handle as he can get careless with the ball on drives. Had 3.7 turnover per game … Hasn’t shown a great ability to step up his play in clutch situations. His “feel” for the game remains behind his physical abilities … Struggles from the free throw line at under 60%
