As of Today, June 18th 2007, NBADraft.net has the San Antonio Spurs selecting senior Kyle Visser out of Wake Forest. Visser is listed as 6-10, 250 lbs. and is expected to play center in the NBA.

Kyle averaged 17.1 points per game for the Demon Deacons last year. He is able to shoot a mid range shot but does most of his scoring with a variety of post moves on the low block. Visser is also a good rebounder posting 7.4 rebounds per game playing in the ACC.

Wake Forest player profile: http://wakeforestsports.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/visser_kyle00.html

The following is his draft profile on NBADraft.net:

Strengths: Has a great understanding of the game of basketball, especially post play. Four years under Coach Prosser has molded him into a terrific player … Solid athlete with good quickness and mobility … Added 15 pounds between his junior and senior seasons, giving him the strength to become a dominant interior force … Possess a great motor as he constantly works to get open in the post … Great rebounder who has no problem rebounding out of his position… Understand angles, body positioning and most importantly has a nose for the ball … Plays with a great level of intensity and aggressiveness wants to win and will show his dissatisfaction if his team is performing badly … Offensively his back to the basket skills are refined and improving with leaps and bounds … Already has a solid up and under move, and turnaround hook that he converts with ease … Unlike many players, Visser is very fast with his movements with great footwork in the post … Because of his willingness to get physical in the post, Visser does a great job of drawing fouls … Owns not only a pair of soft hands but also strong hands trying to pry the ball away from him is a chore … Shows good touch around the post … Very fundamental. Heady and crafty player who plays to his strengths … Late bloomer. Despite having played four years of college, Visser is perceived as a player of a good deal of potential …

Weaknesses: Added weight has made him much tougher inside, but limited his speed in the open floor some … Needs to work on conditioning and tone his muscle mass … Has a bad habit of putting the ball on the floor at times in order to establish an offensive rhythm, however he seems to know when to use the dribble and rarely gets stripped … Not a bad passer but fails to recognize double teams quickly … Lacks a perimeter shot which is due to an unorthodox release … Defensively he hustles, but lacks the explosiveness to be a shot blocking presence … Despite getting to the line a great deal, Visser’s poor free throw shooting limits his ability to fully capitalize … Like everything in his game this year, Visser has improved on staying out of foul trouble but he has had a history of getting too aggressive … Doesn’t always finish after contact …

With TD, Elson, Fabricio, Horry and (kinda) Butler, plus with Scola waiting in the wings, do the Spurs really need another big man?

If Oberto leaves, we might. I hope Fabs sticks around though, and I think he will.
