Draft Prospect: Ramon Sessions

I think this 6'4" Junior out of Nevada has a shot at becoming a Spur tomorrow. Mainly because I think he would fit into the backup point role on this team really nicely. This would open the door to trade Beno away, he clearly can use a change of scenery.

He is a quick pass first point guard with limited shooting ability. His defense is reported to be questionable but you can say that about 75% of these soon to be NBA rookies. Plus he seems to have a good attitude, so if he puts in the work in the gym I don't see why he can't turn into a nice role player or even an eventual starter in this league.

This past season he was a finalist for the Bob Cousy award. An award given to the top collegiate male point guard. Here is what it said about him on the Cousy award website:

Sessions is too good to be left out of the discussion about the best point guards in the nation. Sessions has led Nevada in each of his first three seasons in assists and has averaged nearly 5 assists per game for his career while guiding the Wolf Pack to 2 NCAA Tournament appearances. This season he is averaging over 13 points per game and has led Nevada to the highest national ranking in school history. Sessions already ranks 3rd in the Wolf Pack record book for career assists and currently leads the WAC Conference in assist to turnover ratio.

I especially like what it said about him leading his conference in assist to turnover ratio. It shows that he makes good decisions with the basketball. He also rebounded well for Nevada pulling down 4.7 rebounds a game. Not bad for a college point guard.

Sessions also did a nice job at the Orlando pre-draft camp. Posting the best stats of any of the point guards (13 points per game, 13 total assists compared with just 1 lone turnover). He was measured with his shoes off at 6'2" and 6'3.75" with shoes on. He had an impressive standing reach of 8' 1.5".
