Peterson or Maggette to SA ?

The Spurs continue to pursue trade possibilities. Friday's loss also further exposed the difficulties the Spurs have in matching up with the Mavericks, given their lack of athleticism at some positions.

The Spurs have inquired about Toronto forward Morris Peterson, but those conversations haven't yielded much.

Team officials continue to speak with the Clippers about swingman Corey Maggette. The Spurs have been hesitant about parting with both Barry and Udrih in a possible deal, but that could change.

Bonner's name also has come up in talks with the Clippers.

Like everybody else, the Spurs have spoken to the Clippers about Corey Maggette and to illustrate how far Maggette has slipped in everyone's mind, San Antonio is reluctant to part with 35-year-old Brent Barry in the deal, because Brent's hitting nearly 50 percent of his 3's this year.

The Clippers, according to a Western Conference official, are in talks with at least three other teams, and might not feel as pressured to move Maggette given that they also have fielded offers for Cuttino Mobley.

The Clippers weren't interested in James Posey when the Heat inquired again about Corey Maggette.

nahh Finley is younger than Barry and has more years left...Finley is gonna find his touch as the season goes on...personally I would trade either:

Barry
Udrih
Bonner

or

Barry
Udrih
Williams

for

Maggette

I agree. I would hate to lose Bonner. He has done a great job coming off the bench and he is still young. I don't think it would be worth giving him up to get Maggette.

The Clippers just signed SF Luke Jackson to a 10 day contract. They could be looking for a cheap Maggette replacement as they are often looking to save money.

Maybe the Clippers are money crazy enough to trade Maggette for Udrih, Finley, and Williams. Fin and Eric both have expiring contracts. That would set them up to save a lot of money next season and give them a backup PG, since Cassell is getting way up there.

Either that trade or the Bones and Udrih trade would be fine with me. It does appear that the Clipps are going to move Maggette sometime soon (the DNP and the Luke Jackosn signing). I hope the Spurs are able to get in on the deal.

I'm just not sold on bringing in Maggette. Maybe it is because I am a big Barry fan. But I'm just not so sure that he is the answer to our prayers.

I like the idea of surrounding Tim Duncan with Shooters and Barry is a far better shooter than Maggette will ever be. Maggette is good at using his strength to get to the hoop and to the line but we already have Tony and Manu that can do that stuff. Maggette would be an upgrade on D over Barry and would also be a major boost to our rebounding efforts. I'm just not sure if I see his game meshing with the Spurs system.

Cory Maggette also has a player option for $8.4 million in 08/09. When you combine that with the large salaries of Duncan, Parker and Ginobili it may not leave much room to build around the core, especially since we can't count on getting any decent draft picks being one of the elite teams in the league.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t do it, just that I’m not sure if it would work out. It would be a major gamble.

It looks like the Raptors have not been interested in whoever and whatever the Spurs offered for Mo Pete.

"Several teams continue to call and inquire about certain players on our roster," Colangelo said yesterday.

"While we are certainly looking to improve our basketball team and making those same calls, nothing has been suggested or discussed with any team to date that we are prepared to act on."

The silence on Maggette is deafening. I doubt Pop did anything to move on that. We might have our current roster until the end of the season.[/url]
