Spurs Offer Ioannis Bourousis 3 Years $12 Millions

Google Translation:

Proposal for a three-year contract from the sperm is allegedly at the hands of John Bourousis which is known as left free from the Olympic and is facing a major dilemma. Ελλάδα ή ΝΒΑ; Greece or the NBA?

The annual earnings will reach 1.7 million, while overall the player will get 12 million dollars if you choose San Antonio.

The team in Texas with coach Greg Popovic always open their eyes and interest for players outside the NBA, it is no coincidence that the composition has the athletes as the French Tony Parker and Ian Mainmi and Argentinian Tzinompili Manos and Fampritsio Omperto.

Last year's season and even won the rights Vassilis Spanoulis from the Houston rocket go before the Greek Panathinaikos garde.

John Bourousis the Olympic was the most low to 500,000 euros and is now reasonable to ask for a better contract.

The KAE Olympiakos wants to keep 26chrono senter in Piraeus and will soon submit a formal proposal. The Greek international has also said he wants to stay in the Olympic, but will begin negotiations with the club to the tune of 2 million for each year of cooperation with the group.

For its part, the OEM is expected to make a lower offer.

Weaknesses
He seriously lacks mental strength. Despite his energy and athleticism, most of the times he looks like a fish out of water. Despite his ability to get in and change a game, he rarely does it. His coach doesn't trust him with significant playing time, simply because he is not trustworthy. Bouroussis has many physical skills, but hardly a clue of how to take advantage of them. Even when he enters the court, he seems passive, raw, confused and not focused at all. He is scared to take many shots and thinks about it too long, looking soft and insecure, something that opponent centers feast on. His decision making ability is at best pathetic. As a result, despite almost three years of experience in the Euroleague, he doesn't seem to have gained many things, especially in regards to experience and competitiveness and that's sad. In other words, he seems to be a lost talent.

It's clear that when you have a very talented player like Bouroussis, you need to use him in order for him to develop. Bouroussis, however, never got that. He had to fight to earn his minutes and he was never a fighter.

Skill wise, he appears to be a bit uncomfortable with his back to the basket, at that's why I honestly believe that his game is closer to an NBA Power Forward. He can finish with the right hand and he can dunk impressively, although he usually is a lay-up finisher. He has many moves inside too, but he is always confused and many times he does not to know what to do with the ball in his hands. Despite being a good perimeter shooter, his free throw shooting isn't great. He shoots around 60-62% and needs to improve here.

Defensively, he hasn't shown much. He has a problem with stronger players, but I think that his biggest difficulty is to keep up with the tempo of the game. He needs the ball in his hands, so he can make baskets and then you can see him improving on defense too. So, he doesn't really lack the fundamentals. Simply, when he feels that the he is a part of the team and he stays for significant time in the court, he will try his best and soon he can contribute on both sides of the floor. However, when he gets in for 5 minutes or less at a time, he again looks like a fish out of water. Confused Especially when he knows that he'll go out after his first turnover.

so ok... what does the spurs like about him then? almoste these traits are un-Spurs like..

@Katrille
You have quoted the article from 2005. Apparently he improved. What follows is the article from 2009.
Bouroussis remains one of the most productive big men in European basketball on a per-minute basis, he’s averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds per-40 pace adjusted on 59% shooting from the field. He’s not particularly athletic, but has a massive frame which he uses to draw fouls at a terrific rate, and is a threat to score with his back to the basket, shooting jumpers from outside, or finishing pick and roll plays in the lane thanks to his excellent hands. He’s also an excellent rebounder, particularly on the offensive end. Talk out of Greece is that he’s interested in exploring his NBA options this summer, and as we’ve written on a few occasions in the past, he could be a very interesting free agent target for certain teams. We’ll be taking an in-depth look at him this weekend, and may try to pick his brain as well.

That's too much money for a European player who hasn't proven himself in the NBA. I think the Spurs should give him a 2 years contract with the 2nd year as a team option.

Spurs going Greek? Not so fast
By Jeff McDonald on Jun 5, 09 07:31 PM

Perhaps by now you have read this unfortunately translated report out of Greece, intimating that the Spurs have offered a three-year deal to Euroleague star Yiannis Bouroussis.

Perhaps your imagination has already begun to run wild, and you have begun to ponder the implications of a taller, younger version of Luis Scola with 3-point range lining up with Tim Duncan through 2012.

One problem with this scenario: At this point in the offseason, it is against NBA rules for the Spurs to have offered anybody anything. In fact, it is against NBA rules for the Spurs to even contact Bouroussis or his representatives, and will be until July 1.

So we can tell you, without much mental gymnastics, that the Greek report is incorrect. Or at best premature. The Spurs have offered Bouroussis nothing. Yet.

That's not to say Bouroussis, the 6-foot-11 star center for the Greek team Olympiacos, is not a bright blip on the Spurs' radar. They scouted him at the Euroleague Final Four last month, where he performed well for a Spurs contingent that included general manager R.C. Buford, assistant GM Dennis Lindsey and coach Gregg Popovich.

It wouldn't be surprising, after July 1, to see the Spurs tender Bouroussis an offer. We'll have to wait and see.

Free agents become free on July 1, but does that apply to Greece as well?

Teams are allowed to talk to FA on July 1, and as far as I know if the player doesn't have a contract in the NBA than he is considered to be a FA.

I just hope that even after July 1 the Spurs won't spend $12 mil on an unproven European center.

he got a larger contract offer from OLYMPIAKOS, and will stay in Greece

http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... ry_state0=

so that leaves one big man off the Spurs radar

So either the Spurs should spend the entire MLE on Sheed and see if he wants to play in SA next to Duncan like he said he wants to

or split the MLE on 2 players; one being a SF and the other PF/C

and use the LLE on someone else

again most of this depends on how the summer leagues go with Gist, Mahinmi, and Hairston

The way I read the awful translation (too bad we don't have a Greek speaking forum member) is that he has received an offer, and they are trying to sign him prior to July 1, beating us to the punch. But, it is not a done deal with OLYMPIAKOS yet.
Hmm. Reading it again I'm not sure. Maybe it is a done deal. It is all Greek to me.

The Bourousis saga continues

Today took part the delayed meeting between the administration of Olympiakos and the agent of Ioannis Bourousis(2.10-C), Kostas Papadakis. There appears to be a different between the player's side and Olympiakos regarding the financial aspect of the contract.

There is also a rumor that there is an offer on the table from the San Antonio Spurs that comes up to 2 million euros per season for 4 seasons. One might say that the agent is using that as leverage. The fact remains that there will be another meeting as the both the player and the team want to strike a deal for the next season. Bourousis would prefer to stay in Greece if possible and the general consensus is that eventually both sides will come half-way.

It is all Greek to me.

:mhihi:

Some teams in Europe are really struggling with the economy, for example it has been reported that CSKA Moscow was funded largely by oil revenues that have dipped dramatically. Now it is a real possibility that they may not honor some of their large contracts. This is a risk for players in Europe, the money is not as guaranteed as it is in the NBA. However Greece seems to be in pretty good shape as far as anyone can tell.
