With Seattle currently sitting on the 6th worst record in the league, they should have absolutely ZERO motivation to get better down the home stretch. Only an idiot like Bob Hill would try to win games and reduce the Sonics chances to get Greg Oden or Kevin Durant.
Forward/center Danny Fortson is not expected back until after the All-Star Break. The trade deadline is Feb. 22 and Fortson's expiring contract could be moved by then. He has not played since Jan. 5.

Fortson is on the books for 2006-2007 at $6,596,990. The Spurs could block up the expiring contracts of Eric Williams at $4,296,000 and Jacques Vaughn at $1,071,000. Or they could wait for the Sonics to buy out Fortson and sign him for the rest of the season for the pro-rated veterans minimum.
PROS: Fortson is an excellent rebounder and a tough defender. That one move might solve the Spurs toughness and rebounding issues that have plagued them much of the season. Duncan would at least know that he didn't have to grab every single important rebound with Fortson sweeping the glass. It also is a low-risk move since the Spurs can say goodbye to Fortson at the end of the season if it doesn't work out.
CONS: Fortson is a proven knucklehead with a limited offensive game. Playing next to Duncan would minimize that though. Chemistry might also be an issue since Fortson's arrival might sit one of the inconsistent twins, Elson or Oberto. Perhaps Fortson would recognize that playing for a top contender in a contract year might be the golden opportunity he needs.
