I just look at the Spurs roster and I saw(if they sign new contracts) 9 bigs.I have an idea sign Bonner and Oberto then let Ely and Vaughn gone. Then trade away J.Butler and Bonner for a back up PG.That is it all I dont know who to take but a decent backup like C.Duhan or Telfair or ... .Then the roster could be like this:
C:Splitter/Elson/Oberto
PF:Duncan/Horry/Luis Scola(send Giorgas Printezis to Europe or D-League and then when the BIG SHOT ROB reties we can call him back)
SF:Bowen/J.White/Marcus Williams
SG:Finley/Manu/Barry
PG:Parker/C.Duhan or Telfair/Udrih
My first choose to backup Tony is Chris Duhan he has nice court vision and treys. As you see we have both youngs and experienced in all positions except SG(if Williams play SF).I look forward to Almond to fill it but... .In the other hand now I like to see Pop to trust me and Tiago and start him and give him minutes I think he responds it.Just be happy we had a good draft. Thanks to R.C.Buford and the company.

Is Scola even coming this year or will it be next year 3million buy out this year 1 million next year ?

What exceptions do we have left this year

Under contact right now

Duncan
Manu
Tony
Elson
Butler
White (non guaranteed)
Barry
Fin
Horry
Bowen
Beno

FA
Vaugn
Ely
Bonner
Oberto (RFA)

Would new Sonic GM trade with us maybe Barry for Earl Watson (3 years left) salary matches (maybe thrown in rights to a draft pick or something). Give us a solid back up point guard gives them a 1 year contract and a vet mentality they need to help shape the young guys.

Cleveland has interest in beno according to Hoops hype article they have linked they have a trade exception so we can unload his salary since we got nothing else maybe a 2nd round pick for him or just to clear salary of the books.

The other trade I like would be with Atlanta not sure if they do it but it would help us out and them.

Barry + Butler + Beno for Speedy Claxton and Childress

Why we make the trade we get a solid young SF/SG to add to the rotation and a backup PG that played well for us before.

Why would ATL do it they have Law as the new starting PG Tyrone Lue as the back up and they trade away a 3 year contract for 2 1 years and a small 2 year contract. This will create so cap relief to resign a bunch of players next year that are do up for contracts. They have 7 contracts due up next year one being Josh Smith (will get a pay raise) Childress is also a FA after next year and he will be do a pay raise as well. SO Barry and Beno come of the books for them Butler is a small contract that want hurt. They could also trade Beno small contract this year for just a pick and clear the books to like Cleveland

Just some scenarios that I think would have a chance to actually happen not that the GM's are pursing them or that they will but I was trying to find reasonable trades that made sense

Giorgas Printezis was traded to the Raps

i would love to have Speedy back! and Childress would be cool too, but idk if ATL would agree to the trade

I gave reason why they would.

Not saying they will but they might for salary cap reasons and who they need to resign

They now have 3 PG and Speedy makes the most of the three so they have a lot of sf/sg as well.

It comes down to money and they are tight against the cap so it would give them flexibility to resign a lot of their players.

We would be taking on speedy's contract

Splitter and Scola will not come over next year.

I would like to keep our roster relatively the same other than letting Ely go. I also like keeping the cap space open for the 08/09 season. Speedy Claxton would eat that up. Not worth it for a player that missed half of last season and only managed to score 5.3 points per game as a starter.

Barry to Seattle might work but I think Presti would rather give up Luke than Watson, and we don't want Luke. He is much like Beno only with a much bigger contract and maybe even a worse defender. I would also worry that sending Barry back to Seattle may hinder the Spurs in acquiring future free agents. Why sign with the Spurs when they might just send you back to where you wanted out of?

Splitter has to buy out in the summer of 2008 or we wasted a pick because he will be locked up in Europe and he will never play for us ever

Scola may never play but I think Splitter will. Next year his buy out is said to be $1 million. The CBA allows the Spurs to pay $500,000.00. That only leaves Tiago picking up half that bill. Then being a first round pick he would get a multi- year contract and the hopes of real NBA riches. Tiago has obviously also wanted to play in the NBA. This is the 4th time he registered for the draft. In each and every one of those 4 drafts he was projected as a lottery pick at some point before pulling out. Spurs got a steal, you better hope he comes over.

Oh and thanks for posting who is under contract right now. That shows 4 bigs; Timmy, Horry, Butler, and Francisco.

Spurs will try and resign or match for Oberto. Hopefully he comes back and we will have at least 5 bigs on the roster next year. If not they have to find another bargain with MLE money because Butler doesn't look ready. So my vote is no, we don't have too many bigs on the roster.

I wanted Javtokas to come over last year. If the Spurs can't resign Oberto I would be all for it this year as well.
