Trade Deadline is approaching...

Trade Deadline is approaching...

Postby SVballer on Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:18 pm

Yet it's no secret in NBA front-office circles that the Spurs, in spite of their limited trade assets, hope to acquire at least one more quality player before the Feb. 19 trade deadline. It would be tough, on this evidence, to dispute the theory that they'll need another big man or another scoring threat to move into what Pop describes as the Lakers' league. That's especially true if the Lakers -- given all of their health issues -- can bank on the following claim from Bryant as L.A. prepares for two more challenges: Orlando visits Staples Center on Friday, followed by Cleveland on Monday.

I can't wait to see who the Spurs get but it better be someone under the age of 30. I hope they can get a player someone like Charlie Villanueva, David Lee or Paul Millsap. If we can manage to get any of those players, it's a championship for the Spurs.

Brad Miller, the 7-footer, is an attractive target for Western Conference teams searching for the size to overtake the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs have interest, but don’t have the combination of young players and expiring contracts that the Kings want, league executives say.

The clippers hate Lakers, then they will be happy to trade Camby for two cokes if the lakers will be beaten

Hard to see any trade where we can give up somebody valuable and not leave a hole in the rotation. Bonner is about the only one, and can we convince anybody to take Oberto?

Scary Daily Dime

Postby b1gdon on Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:16 am

Just saw this trade idea on the Daily Dime and it scares the hell out of me. It just makes too much sense:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-090203
By Chris Broussard | ESPN The Magazine As great as Baron Davis can be, he's just not motivated playing for a lousy team in his hometown. Plus, his body has been fragile his whole career, so logic says that should only become a bigger problem with age.

So offer Davis ($11.25 million) and Marcus Camby ($10 million) to Dallas for Jason Kidd ($21.372 million). This trade works under the salary cap, immediately puts Dallas near the top of the Western Conference, and saves the Clippers $61.65 million over the next four years.

Yes that would be a disaster.

I wouldn't mind trying to trade for Zaza Pachulia from the Atlanta Hawks, he has starting potential , and can usually put up double double numbers , especially right now since Horford is out with injury.

Plus he is mobile enough to guard players like Dirk, Sheed, etc that play on the perimeter

that or try and get Jeff Foster from the Pacers, the Spurs have tried to trade for him before.

The thing is I can't really decide what big I would want the Spurs to give up

KT
Bonner
Oberto

all of their advantages in the Spurs system

How about:
Chris Andersen, Denver Nuggets -- 2008/09: $998,398, 2009/10: Free Agent
He has some scoring ability and loves to block shots.

Hakim Warrick, Memphis Grizzlies - 2008/09: $2,119,101, 2009/10: $3,021,838 (Restricted Free Agent), 2010/2011: Free Agent
Solid player who is not doing well with the new coach

Joel Anthony, Miami Heat - 2008/09: $711,517, 2009/10: Free Agent

I really have no idea if any of these guys are available for trades; they are pure speculation on my part. I looked for decent big guys who aren't paid huge salaries on teams that have some depth at the position.

Also, this year I wouldn't be unhappy if we traded Udoka.

If something makes sense and Mark Cuban is involved, then we have nothing to worry about.

We should try to sucker Memphis into giving us Warrick.
They gave up Gasol for pocket lint and a couple of bottle caps.

Udoka, Tiago Splitter rights????

For Warrick and 2nd rounder.

Wow I think that the Spurs are the most talkative team before this years Trade Deadline but they are just looking to add to the championship formula not change anything major....like the Suns who never had the formula to begin with :mhihi:

Well anyways there have been rumors of Spurs being interested in Rasheed Wallace? Vince Carter? Brad Miller? John Salmons?

If I was the GM of the Spurs..I would pursue Brad Miller and John Salmons together and give the Kings a bunch of expiring contracts plus Bowen, Finley, rights to Tiago and give them Oberto. Fin or Bowen would prolly end up being cut back to the Spurs.

Although they might want Hill.

Spurs Interested In Kings' Salmons, Miller?

The Spurs reportedly have interest in Kings guard John Salmons and center Brad Miller, and they are exploring ways to acquire them in a trade.

San Antonio is even looking to see if Sacramento is interested in Robert Horry, according to a source, who the Spurs could sign and deal.

Horry would then be waived by the Kings, taking home money for nothing, but allowing Sacramento to get out from underneath the contract of either Salmons or Miller.

It's possible that Michael Finley could be involved in a deal between the two teams as well.
