Washington Offered the 5th Pick For Manu

Washington Offered the 5th Pick For Manu

Postby libri on Thu Jun 04, 2009 5:12 pm

One thing that's not in doubt: The Wizards are actively dangling the fifth pick for a starting veteran. They are said to have contacted San Antonio to find out about the availability of Manu Ginobili, but that rumor was quickly shot down by both sides. The Wizards may also try to make a run at unrestricted free agent forward Shawn Marion (Toronto) or guard Ben Gordon (Chicago).

I wouldn't do it... If we trade one of our big three, I would want some kind of compensation that would help the Spurs win now. A #5 pick wouldn't help unless they traded some experienced veterans, but I would still be cautious with that trade.

Even though I have said that the Spurs should consider trading Manu I wouldn't like this deal one bit. Now if they wanted to give up Caron Butler, I might have to think about that one.

If Caron Butler came with the number 5 pick, as much as it would hurt, I think we would be forced to do it. That would be to good to pass up.

Even though Pop said that he couldn't envision trading Manu, he did say this:
“Helluva player for a helluva player,” is the way Gregg Popovich describes the proposal now.

Pop could be referring to Caron Butler.

Seems a little late in Timmy D's career (or should I say early) to be trading a star for a rookie, but we would also open more cap space. The fifth pick would likely make less than $3 million next year. With Washington being way over the cap already they would likely want us to take at least one other contract off their hands. This makes the deal very difficult to pull off. But just for ##### and giggles who would you guys take if we had the fifth pick? Who might be available? James Harden? Tyreke Evans? Curry? Gerald Henderson?

^^First option would be James Harden but he will be long gone. If not Harden then Jordan Hill.

for a tade with manu that sounds pathetic frankly....why not kevin duarnt...and there manu can make the thunder a contender him dropping 30 and be a mvp guy...he might win that if his there..LOL!but i think if they dont want manu only why not manu+money and bonner udoka or manu a\plus the two guys minus money....i'll be better a better sf athletic and young...a future mvp....but i guess with that mason would sit letting rj be the sg...and him the 6th guy..BUT THIS GOES FOR THE WISH LISTS!

Yeah I don't see the Thunder doing that deal. Sam Presti is too smart for that and they are in the rebuilding phase. Spurs have a legit shot at a title next year if they can find a couple of quality bigs. The draft was step one in that mission.

The Jefferson deal was far better than this one, to say the least.
