QUETTA, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistani officials told CNN Wednesday the
situation along its border with Afghanistan has been getting increasingly
tense over the past two or three days.

Correspondent Nic Robertson reported seeing
hundreds of men on the Afghan side of the border
throwing rocks at Pakistani policemen. He said the
policemen gestured their weapons at the men but
did not fire.

Pakistan has sealed the border, but Robertson said
he saw some of the rock throwers walk across at
dusk along with a few vehicles.

Robertson and CNN cameraman Alfredo DeLara
were the only Western-based TV journalists left in
Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. They were asked to
leave the country Wednesday because the Taliban
said it could not guarantee their safety if
Afghanistan was attacked.

Robertson said Afghans appeared to be preparing
for the worst.

He said that when they left Kandahar, which is
normally a bustling city, the streets were very quiet
and many stores were closed.

Afghan military checkpoints were on a higher alert
and the guards had bayonets mounted on the rifles.

People appeared to be somber and were paying
close attention to their radios to hear the latest news and find out what could
happen to their country, Robertson said.

He said there were not many cars loaded with families and their belongings on the
road leading to the border.

The United Nations said about 15,000 Afghan refugees fled to Pakistan in the past
week. It sent 25 trucks loaded with 2,000 tents, 6,000 blankets and other supplies
to Quetta, Pakistan, to help deal with the influx.
ILuvBB

It sounds like they are being realistic. They are going to get hammered, unless they give up the man.

Actually this is the best for the Afghani people and the integrity of that country. Afghanistan will get free food, medical assistance and the restoration of liberty to women thanks to our military actions. Just like in Iraq, as a buddy of mine told me who served there and is presently in the FBI, when America conquored Iraq, EVERY soldier was crying out of happiness. They were all starving to death and the good American military fed them! Rodents like Saddam Hussein have no place in this world.
Let's get those bastards in my personal photo URL!

I think that further thought reveals that Afghanistan is not the enemy, it is the ruling Taliban and the terrorists they are protecting. I think that as a whole the Afghanis don't have a lot to worry about but the ruling party does. I also believe that they (meaning our govt) are going to try and be surgical in their attacks. Collateral damage of course is always a concern and certainly you do not want to be a part of that damage.

Much of the people in Afghanistan are actually against the Taliban but there isn't much they can do. In some respects many of the Afghanis won't mind if the Taliban gets their butts kicked.
