alamo50's diary Game 1 Western Finals

Postby alamo50 on Tue May 20, 2003 1:59 pm

My weekend was pretty cool while outside I was burning up.
Got to do my radio appearance again at Hardcore Sports with the Thompson Brothers, went to the X-Games, saw Matrix II and visited the Remata racetrack topped of with a visit to the new Hooters in town......not to newest female resident of San Antonio, but the newest joint of that chain of restaurants where you can eat the meanest chicken wings in town while enjoying the view.

Of course right after the Mavs beat the Kings to face-up with us in the Western Finals it went through my mind that I was on my way to .allas for the weekend!
Gary already had booked hotels in Saco and .allas just to be sure (LOL)!
BUT as we all read and/or heard there’s a war going on right now about the game tickets in both cities available for the opposing team. I just sit tight and hope the best.

Living up to the game on Monday I read the emails that Ken Rodriguez (the reporter who had written the great article about me published in Sunday’s newspaper) had forwarded to me and there was one from that one guy who had the tattoo of David Robinson on his back. Remember him? Well I sure did, because I remember I had seen that tattoo 4 years ago somewhere on the net and I was pretty impressed by that tattoo.
And now he had emailed Ken to get in touch with me, COOL! I told him where I would be sitting and I would like to meet him too.

Driving to the beautiful SBC Center my friend Gary told me he had received a lot of positive response from people at work on the article in the newspaper.
It’s just awesome…….
Walking to my seat at the SBC I heard a guy call my name (HEY ALAMO!) and I turned around.
It was “disciple” and his father from the WOAI forum. He welcomed me back and we talked for a while. Arriving at my new seat for the 2 home games vs. .allas (my regular seats had been sold to somebody else by mistake) there was one guy sitting all alone in section 101. It was the guy with the tattoo! We introduced to each other and ended up talking the entire warm-up about David and his religion…..just awesome.
As we were talking some people walked up to me and said they had read the article about me in the newspaper and wished me all the best.
Meanwhile I also spotted my French friend Olivier (the reporter for L’Equippe) and went to greet him.
As we were shaking hands he asked me if I knew whom that guy was who was sitting next to Tony on the bench talking with each other. I said his face looks very familiar but no, I don’t know. Well said Olivier, it’s Thierry Henry………THIERRY HENRY!!?!!
WOW!!! Ok, let me explain, Thierry Henry is one of the best soccer players in the world.
He has been World Champion with the national team of France and right now he plays in England for Arsenal. Olivier knew I would like that info and he definitely got the confirmation on that thought (LOL)!
Cool!

Than all of a sudden sitting by myself zoning into the game 15 minutes before tip-off I saw Charles Barkley walking into the light coming out of the player’s tunnel.
COOL, he was actually on location with the TNT broadcasting crew as they had set up some kind of booth right above my (new) section.
As Charles was walking up the stairs to get to his booth I stood up and took a few steps to my right, put out my right hand as Charles approached me and we shook hands as I told him that it was good to meet him………..AND THAN MAGIC JOHNSON WAS RIGHT BEHIND HIM!!!!!
I waited till he was near me as I once again put out my hand and than me and Magic shook hands as I said to him it was my honor. He replied that he appreciated that and smiled.
I let Kenny Smith just go by.
See, it all worked out. First I was disappointed my seat had been sold to somebody else by mistake and now this is what I got back for it….GOOD DEAL!

Game time…….
Not going to waste any writing on my view on it as everybody saw what happened……..
49 FREAKIN’ POINTS OUT OF FREETHROWS?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?
Whatever.
Just before halftime Charles, Magic and Kenny climbed the stairs to get to their special TNT booth again and I saw one man shouting at all of them as 1st Charles, than Magic followed by Kenny walked by him. All 3 of them looked into the guy's direction as they passed him and smiled because they thought he was just getting attention for them to look at them. But as the ex-players looked at him he shouted even louder and starting to point his finger at them while his face turned red like a tomato. I couldn’t understand what he was saying, but I could tell it wasn’t all that because even Magic’s smile disappeared when the guy went off on them.
I was so ready to go right over there and smack that guy right in the face and tell him he was a guest in the home of the Spurs and he should act like it. But I didn’t because I don’t wanna be thrown out of the SBC myself while some people would recognize me from the newspaper and would think bad about Dutch people (LOL)! We are such a peaceful tribe……….

During halftime I was invited to sit down at the Charter level with my friend Reid again (Malik’s biggest fan). I sat like just 5 seats to the left of Peter Holt as the governor of Texas accompanied him.
Reid and I went nuts with the thunder sticks every time .allas shot a free throw (those things just didn’t work)……..
Than Malik went down and Reid was in shock and when they brought out the stretcher he couldn’t stand to watch it anymore………damn………….
When Malik stood up after a while I told him it was ok to stand up now and he did.
But he was in shock and didn’t come out of it till after the game when Peter Holt walked up to Reid and started talking to him while patting him on the back. Reid smiled again.

As I was very disappointed and on top of that emotionally affected to have seen Reid’s reaction to Malik’s going down I dazed off out of my seat to the stairs out of the SBC. While I was walking a guy shouted “HEY HOLLAND!”. I looked up and walked in that direction.
It was an older guy and his wife sitting there and while I shook their hands the guy told me it would be all right. We will take them in 7. I replied by saying that I was just very disappointed about this game, but that I know it’s gonna be fine in the end. Hey, we even play better on the road.
Driving back home Gary told me that Rita had spoken with Peter Holt and Valerie Robinson and they both had said they loved the article about me in the paper.
Mr. Holt had asked Gary if I was still around and Gary had pointed me out to him as I was sitting in my new seat for the 1st half.
Ms. Robinson had told Rita she remembered me from my previous visits and that she just loved the whole story about me……so I am sure she told David about it and that’s just awesome to me.
That David knows I am back just like I had said to support him on in his last steps on the court fulfilling his 1st mission he got from God when He had send him down to earth to do well for the people.

See y’all on Wednesday.
It’s going to be crucial.

Alamo50- what are you doing booking hotels in Dallas? Haven't I always told you that you have place to stay when you come up here? Plenty of room for Gary and Rita too.

You said Gary booked the hotels in Sac and Dallas just to make sure.

No, I don't have tickets. Came home from work at 7am, tried to get on to ticketmaster and, forgetting that it wouldn't be open until 10am, I went to sleep. Of course when I woke up at 2pm they were all gone. I would be one popular girl if I did have tickets though, wouldn't I?
