It's a LOCK.

It's a LOCK.

Postby BiggDrew on Thu May 15, 2003 1:10 pm

Tony Bruno called this game a lock. "The biggest lock of the century" or something to that effect. He guarantees that the Lakers will win by double digits. He said he wasn't trying to discourage Spurs fans, but that it's a fact.

Really, it feels like all the pressure is on the Lakers. No one expects us to win. For some reason I have that feeling like we just might bite those lakers in the ass tonight.

The Spurs need to look at the big picture. A win tonight all but guarantees us a championship. Who is going to stop us if the Lakers can't? David has the opportunity to ice the perfect ending to his career. Tim has the opportunity to show why he is truly one of the greatest players of all time. Pop has the opportunity to silence the Pop bashers, and the Laker Dynasty will come to a violent halt. It's just one game. There is tremendous history on the line, but it's one game. The Spurs can do it. I believe.

And speaking of ass-biting, will Marv Albert be calling the game tonight? I vastly prefer the Marv/Van Gundy crew to the other jokers.

I think the Spurs have a great chance to get this one...provided the officials call it even. Of course that proviso might be a pipe dream, but if not I really like the Spurs chances. They are the better, more talented team. They will not be overconfident as they were heading into game 3. In game 4, when they weren't overconfident, and LA still desperately needed a win, they would have won the game if the officiating had been even-handed.

IMO, the psychological damage of the "almost loss" is being overemphasized. These guys are professionals.

I like Marv and really like Van Gundy, but I hate the Czar. He's the biggest Laker apologist out there. I believe his role is to explain away and cover up the officials' bias towards the Lakers. He often will show a slow mo replay on a questionable call that favors the Lakers, and say definitively, "that's an easy call to make" even when the opposite is true. When the call favors the opposition, he tries to plant seeds of doubt in the viewer's mind. I just get sick of hearing him speak out so definitively when his explanations often defy the reality you see on the screen. I imagine throngs of Laker fans hanging on his every word, like deluded masses gobbling up the unctuous phrases of a money-grubbing preacher.

Not a bad post, Voracious.

Nessler and Walton will call the game. Perhaps Tolbert.

the only thing Phil Jackson has said this series that has been worth a crap is when he was slamming Tolbert and Walton for their call of game 4.

Eh, whatever, I'm not buying the "lock" thing. Nothing is a lock, especially at this time of year. That being said, you know the Lakers will come out focused and ready, they don't wanna go home. The Spurs need to come ready to play, and I they we will.

The game is on ABC, so in all likelihood, Brad Nessler, Bill Walton, and Tom Tolbert will be calling the it. I'm probably one of the few here who doesn't think Walton is that bad. I find him very hilarious at times, hahaha

Well said my northern brother. Who do most Alaskans root for? I imagine with a lot of military up there, the teams vary.

The teams do vary alot. There of course are all the Laker bandwagoners up here...when they won in 2000 I saw everyone popping up out of nowhere wearing Laker jerseys. It was about then that all the Bulls jerseys dissapeared. I know some good LA fans though, one of my best friends happens to be a Laker fan. My younger bro likes the Sixers, and I know some dudes who like the Pacers, Warriors, Jazz..and of course the Seattle Sonics with them being the closest team to AK. So I guess it just depends on where your roots are/were at. And if your grew up here, like most of my friends and my bro and I have, you just have to pick a team and stick with 'em....which is what I did. I've been an SA fan since 11 or 12 years old. Davod Robinson got me hooked.

I agree, it does seem that we're expected to lose this game.
