The World is a much smaller place than at any time. Events felt in one place are felt in other places almost immediately. The anxiety felt by larger cities is greater, because major structures in the US are the direct target of the terrorists. People are concerned by the possibility of more planes being crashed into buildings, stadiums and arenas. The concern is justified. The Justice Department has identified additional individuals with pilot's training similar to the terrorists who attacked the WTC and the Pentagon.
Athletic events have been cancelled. A charity basketball event was scheduled for Madison Square Gardens in New York. Who can blame the people there for not wanting to gather for such an event, so soon after the WTC bombing? Who can blame public officials for not wanting the possibility of another horrible attack? The danger is real. We cannot allow the terrorists to intimidate us, but increased security measures are a reminder danger exists. If you fly out of LAX(Los Angeles International Airport), private automobiles are no longer allowed to drop off at the terminals, or to park in the adjacent short term parking. A large number of flights are required to handle the 166,000 commercial passengers departing from LAX on an average day. LAX is not the only airport in the L.A. area.
The concept that someone would use a commercial jet filled with passengers as a weapon of mass destruction is beyond what a reasonable person would imagine. Attacks on innocent lives are a direct result of hate. When hate is allowed, good individuals who are regarded as different are dehumanized and demonized to justify crimes against humanity. The same hate is the root of prejudice. The concept that someone you regard as your enemy can be treated unfairly is a danger to civilization. When people hate, they justify all sorts of unreasonable actions. When you see a group of angry people beware. Lynch mobs are very democratic, but they don't do what is right. People dancing in the streets at the loss of innocent human lives is both distressing and symptomatic of hatred. Why should people be glad at someone else's loss? It's only possible where hatred is allowed to exist.
