Nick Van Exel is a big crybaby wannabe gangsta hoopa. The refs did suck...but they were blowing the calls both ways...sucked on both ends of the court.
Pablo P. Kazzo
They sucked both ways. NVE is a punk that needs to get his @$$ kicked by Willis, he needs to get his s*** together beacause he can't blame every loss on the refs.
A team that doesn't drive will never get the calls a team that does will... But I guess they will continue to cry about it... Maybe they should talk to Phil Jackson and get some pointers on how to cry and win over the officials...
Notice the Spurs don't whine after losing games; that's the difference between them and other teams.

They shot like 100 3 pt. attempts, I can't remember them driving to the basket very often.
The Spurs always give credit to the team that beat them. They never whine, they take it like men. Just play the fvcking game and try to win the next game.

The Mavericks shot 30 3 pointers. You dont get foul shots shooting 3 pointers.

In addition, the Mavs only average 22 free throw attempts per game. They took, surprisingly enough, 22 free throws.

The Spurs only got 4 more foul calls than the Mavericks, but shot 23 more foul shots. Why? They took 11 3 pointers. This shows the Spurs were driving to the basket more and creating contact.

So, Spurs took more free throws. Its not poor officiating and its not a conspiracy.

As for Dirk, that was a stupid coaching decision. When Tim gets in foul trouble, HE SITS. .allas left Dirk in the game and he picked up another foul. An obvious, easy to call, stupid foul.

Suck it up Mavericks, the ball bounces both ways.
-Brian

Those refs have done a great job holding NVE to 8 for 28 shooting through the first two games. Mavs got too caught up in the officiating tonight.
Dallas cannot play D in the post. That simple fact should cause them to be OVERLOADED with fouls. Nowitzki's only defense is to foul. I can't believe Nick is complaining about Nowitzki's foul trouble. Does he actually think that Dirk can play defense? Is he high? Wait he a Cincy Bearcat and he's an ex-Laker. No need to answer that.

Foul tally

Mavs 26

Spurs 22

That's actually too even considering the Spurs strengths and the Mavs weaknesses. Take away the 2 Mavs intentional fouls at the end and there is only a 2 freethrow difference. I'm worried the refs are trying to even up the foul count somehow. There were some weak touch fouls called on the Spurs.

Edited by: VoraciousWolf at: 5/21/03 10:53:27 pm

I am new here so I will state my affiliation right off the bat. I am a MAVS fan and not here to trash talk. I hope that none is directed my way either. But if you choose to that's your prerogative.

I am not going to make excuses for game 2. Props to the Spurs for winning the game. But if I were the Spurs I would be a little concerned. Mavs shot 40% and missed many open shots. If a few of those shots fall tonight we may (and I stress "may") have been looking at 0-2 for the Spurs going back to Dallas.

But anyway whats done is done. I am looking forward to game 3 and seeing how the Mavs bounce back. It seems that they have been able to bounce back in their forst two series when needed. Anyway.enjoy the game

ProjectGSX sure you can say that. I was merely referring to the fact that the MAVS on average shoot much better than 40% from the field. If they just shot their average is what I was referring to.
You could say the same thing about your Spurs in game one. If they shot their avger FT % they would have won. But I have to disagree with your assessment that the refs screwed you in game one. There were good and bad calls both ways. Don't cheapen what the MAVS did in game one by blaming it on the refs. Just as I cannot cheapen what the Spurs did in game 2 by blaming it on the refs

This is the second game in a row that the Mavs shot 40%. I think that may have something to do with the Spurs defense. If that's the case, I doubt the Spurs are too concerned. In fact, they're probably downright pleased with themselves.

Let's see if they can keep it up in Dallas!!
