On a night when Michael Jordan made his first appearance in San Antonio in almost five years, it was the return of Tim Duncan that saved the night for the Spurs.
Limited to two points and nine minutes in the first half because of foul trouble, Duncan scored 16 points in the final two quarters to help the Spurs overcome a 14-point deficit Saturday and beat Washington 92-81 in front of a sellout SBC Center crowd of 18,797.
Tony Parker led the Spurs, who won their third straight game, with 21 points and Stephen Jackson added 17.

Jordan, who had totaled 63 points in his previous two games, finished with 16 on 8-of-20 shooting.

With the Wizards preoccupied with double-teaming him after he returned, Duncan found open shots for his teammates. After a dunk by Brendan Haywood gave Washington a 77-75 lead with a little more than four minutes left, Parker hit back-to-back 3-pointers.

Duncan added a running hook then found Jackson for a 3-pointer. Duncan then hit a short bank shot to leave the Spurs with a 90-81 lead with 1:06 left.

Duncan played just nine minutes in the first half after picking up his third foul with 4:24 left in the first quarter. As Duncan headed toward the bench, Haywood hit a pair of free throws to give Washington a 15-13 lead.

When Duncan finally returned with 3:03 left in the second quarter, the Wizards' lead had grown to 41-29.

The Spurs labored to score without Duncan on the floor. They committed seven turnovers and missed 11 of 16 shots and 5 of 9 free throws in the second quarter. For the half, they shot an anemic 31.6 percent.

Entering the game, the Spurs looked like they were starting to improve their free-throw shooting. In the previous five games, they had shot 80.8 percent.
