Spurs' Rose injured late in Game 1

Re: Timeout.

Then the players on the court should have commited a foul to stop play to protect malik, and anybody else to get him out of the middle of the lane before somebody else got hurt or worse, malik gets hurt again

and dallas didn't have the ball at the time to call timeout for eddie

I think the Spurs were over the foul limit at the time. In the middle of a tight game, they didn't want to send the Mavs to the line on a cheap foul. I think I remember hearing one of the announcers saying that the Spurs were over the foul limit so they didn't want to foul.

Your suggestion that "Malik is the dumbass" for continuing to lay on the floor is insane!!!!! The guy almost got a FREAKIN CONSUSSION!!!! You expcet him to run off the floor right away?

Malik is the dumbass for continuing to lay in the middle of the paint while the game is still going on

Rose suffered a stinger and could not move his arms. He didn't exactly have the capability of moving off the court of play when he got injured.

Unfortunately, his injury occurred right under the bucket and to say Dirk is dirty for driving to the hole even though Malik Rose lay prone under the bucket is ridiculous. Rose would have been just as prone to an injury on a rebound as he would have been on a drive to the bucket by an opposing player.

Fortunately, it sounds like it's nothing serious and Rose will be back for Game Two.

why would a player purposely put his own health in danger. dirk could have easily twisted is own ankle. Malik is the dumbass for continuing to lay in the middle of the paint while the game is still going on, and spurs shows how much they care about their own players by not calling a timeout
Malik was injured. I'm guessing you've never played a sport.
Duncan just reached up and plucked it out of the air with nobody close to him. In the replay you can clearly see Nowitzki lurching forward before the ball gets there, pretending he's been pushed, and Duncan doesn't even come close to touching him. Even a Mavs fan has to admit that was a blown call, and a tricky play by Dirty Dirk.

Edited by: VoraciousWolf at: 5/20/03 1:51:57 pm

I suggest Willis and Ferry make honest men out of the Mavs if they continue to flop. An elbow to the back will make Nowitzki's jerk forward seem more convincing.

hmm

Postby mavswcf on Tue May 20, 2003 6:13 pm

spurs fans, don't cry.....you mention faking it (flopping)....hmmm...how about duncan's fake fall out of bounds that fouled najera out of the game....

make your free throws, which shouldn't be hard; after all, free throws are only a fundamental element of basketball.

will the spurs make the gigantic mistake the kings made last year, missing free throws?

don't be bitter...this series is going at least 6; there will be plenty of oppurtunity for excuses.

also, if one of your main players is hurt, why didn't pop take a timeout. the spurs did, indeed, have the ball; however, pop opted not to take a timeout, which was hazardous to his own players and the mav players.

the win or the health of your players? pop opted for the win....so his player remained sprawled on the floor....

also, wasn't it najera who stopped to see if Rose was ok? yeah, the mavs have class...remember that!

I love the irony of trolls talking about class.

Both Najera and Duncan played hard against each other last night. I wouldn't lower either sides effort by comparing it to Nowitzki's flop. Najera was the Mav's post defender last night, his sixth foul was a result of the lack of help Najera's teammates provided him. He did a good job with a tough assignment.

I'm not crying about flopping either, bitter or whatever else you implied in your troll trash take. I'm simply stating what I would do in return. It's like stealing a base in baseball when you are up ten runs. Do it, and expect a fastball in the back.

If I'm a pitcher I would put the ball in the batters back, if I'm a seven footer built like Kevin Willis, I would put an elbow in your back the next time we're sharing the paint. You can disagree, but I won't change my take and be dishonest with you.

And no excuses. The Spurs lost because they didn't play to win. The Mavs did. The scoreboard reflected it.

Next troll please.

Edited by: sisyphos2 at: 5/20/03 5:30:25 pm

Sorry can't pass this one up.

Duncan did not fake a foul. He was either knocked or fell out of bounds from his own momentum. Najera did put his hand in the small of Duncan's back just before he fell out of bounds. That is evident in the replay. It's hard to tell if he pushed him out, but there was contact and in that game almost any contact was called a foul. It's idotic to suggest that Duncan faked that. He would have stayed in bounds if he could have rather than risk the turnover. That's in a totally different ballpark than Dirty Dirk's unprovoked, untouched flop. Label that "whining" if it makes you feel better but someone was claiming that Dirk is "far from dirty"...I merely showed that he's looking pretty tarnished right now.

Edited by: VoraciousWolf at: 5/20/03 6:42:32 pm

Flopping and Dirty Play

Postby Maverick on Tue May 20, 2003 9:24 pm

I dont know whether Dirk flopped or was pushed, camera angles showed both ways, but when has flopping made someone a dirty player. Robert Horry and Vlade Divac both flop alot, yet I have never seen either one of them give an intentional elbow to the back or trip another player. But please don't resort to calling Dirk a dirty player because of a flop. Dirk did not mean to land on Rose's foot he simply saw Robinson on him and knew that he could drive past him and get the easy two or a foul called. If its anyones fault that Rose was stepped on it's Pop's fault. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the Spurs should have gotten a technical and been charged a time-out beacause Rose recieved medical attention while play was going on.

Dirk's flop was much worse than your typical flop because Duncan did not even touch him. He just lunged forward and the refs bit on it (this is evident on the tape, watch it if you have it). An extremely cheap way for Duncan to pick up his 5th foul. I'm not a fan of Vlade's or Fisher's flopping either, but IMO this was even dirtier. Pure acting, with absolutely zero contact. What is this pro-wrestling?

I hate to see NBA players resort to such trickery to help them win, especially one of his caliber. He knocked himself down a few pegs with that one. He's supposed to be the team's star and he's pulling that BS?

Edited by: VoraciousWolf at: 5/20/03 10:09:05 pm
