Flopping and dirty play are two different things. Both are petty and usually resorted to when a player can't succeed on his own merits.

Flopping is trying to trick the refs into bailing you out with a foul call.

Dirty play is negligent disregard for another players safety, i.e. throwing elbows, hitting an airborn player, or going for the body instead of the ball.

Neither behooves any player.

you are wrong. That will not merit a technical. But yes....the Spurs blew that one. I didn't think it was cool for Dirk to drive toward the hoop where Malik was fallen, the sportsman thing to do would have been pull up for a jumper or pass. I do not, however, feel that Dirk stepped on Malik on purpose but given the Juwan Howard thing a few years ago....people here are a little testy.

I heard on KSAT that Dirk says it was all Tony's fault! Tony should have called a timeout while the Spurs had possession.

With everyone heading the other direction, Tony may not have even relized that Malik didn't get up. When the Mavs got possession of the ball, Tony could no longer call a timeout. (The Spurs could have fouled though, when they saw that Malik was in real trouble.)

The refs should have called the timeout. When a player has a scratch with a drop of blood showing, they stop play quick enough. How about some consideration for a disabled player who can't even move?!?!

Not in my opinion. One definition of dirty is "Not sportsmanlike."

Indeed I don't believe there is a definition for that word that includes physical harm. IMO it is dirty to flop, and Dirk's treachery was even beyond that. Dirty Dirk works for me.
