SAN ANTONIO (AP)—
San Antonio Spurs forward Malik Rose left Monday night's playoff game against Dallas late in the fourth quarter after being kneed in the back of the head.
Rose was on the floor when he was kneed by Eduardo Najera of the Mavericks. Rose remained on the court and was being attended to by a trainer as the play went to the other end. The Mavericks brought the ball back down court quickly after a San Antonio miss and Dallas's Dirk Nowitzki stepped on Rose's foot as he still remained on the floor.

The Spurs led Game 1 of the Western Conference finals 104-99 with 4:16 to play when Rose was hurt.

After a lengthy break, Rose was escorted to the locker room where a team doctor said he was being treated for a possible concussion.

Rose played 18 minutes and had three points, one rebound and five fouls.
Shouldn't there have been a time out called when he couldn't get up? That looked very dangerous to me!

I was actually more pissed off at the Spurs for not calling a timeout, Blondie, but oh well...I guess. This was just a head-up-the-keyster game which a true silver and black fan can only assume will wake the team the hell up.

It was very scary and teh news said he suffered a stinger and both arms were numb - that can be a very nagging injury. I hope he is OK

Yeah. I don't think Dirk stepped on him on purpose....but if I were an NBA player and someone did that to my fallen teammate.....I'd give them a piece of my mind, to say the least

They need to step on their coach for not calling a timeout when his player was laying unconscious on the floor.
I'll never understand why Pop didn't call a timeout. Nellie would have called a timeout if it was one of our players.
And no, Dirk did not step on his ankle on purpose. He's not that type of player. He's respectful. He's far from a dirty player
And please don't send Ferry in to beat us up and step on our feet. We really can't stand him. I like just about everybody on the Spurs team EXCEPT Ferry. Never have liked him. Now, Ferry.... he IS a dirty player.
Mavs has a bunch of beast. Too mant injury are committed by them. Manu, Malik, Peja, Weber althought most of them are not directly and purposely .

Of course Dirk didnt step on Malik on purpose. However, he also didnt purposefully AVOID stepping on Malik. Total bullshit.

Why didnt Tony call a time out? Did Pop tell him not to? I cant believe we even put .allas in that situation.

Is it just me, or did Malik look injured all night long? He played like crap. Pop tells the team to get to the basket since the refs are calling these touch fouls and on the very next posession, Malik gets the ball 10 feet from the rim and stands there like a deer in the headlights.
Sorry, Dirk is dirty. That flop with no contact to draw Tim's 5th foul was beyond cheap. Going strait at a downed player is pretty low too.

Yes, Pop should have called a timeout, or they should have just fouled someone. They ended up fouling anyway.

To say that Dirk stepped on his foot is ridiculous!!
why would a player purposely put his own health in danger. dirk could have easily twisted is own ankle. Malik is the dumbass for continuing to lay in the middle of the paint while the game is still going on, and spurs shows how much they care about their own players by not calling a timeout

also, if you extended your arms as Tim did on his 5th, you're gonna get a fouled called on you, even if you're the mighty untouchable Duncan!!

Timeout.

Postby Vallejo21 on Tue May 20, 2003 2:18 pm

I dont think anyone on the Spurs knew how serious Malik's injury was. Najera was on the ground too and Dallas didnt call time. Najera soon got up and continued to play. I bet the Spurs though that any second Malik would get up as well. In the heat of the game the Spurs had no way of knowing what kind of injury Malik suffered.
