Sounds like a plan. I don't have a clue who the guy is but I'm sure he's qualified.

He's a New Yorker, who's been coaching in Australia for over a decade now. He's a good coach who seems to relate to his players very well.

I assume that he's going to step straight into the vacant coaching role, but he could join the scouting team. He's scouted for the Spurs before.

Is he an offensive specialist? I am hoping for something other than 4 down this year!

You should've posted it last Friday.

A couple of our Australian posters at the "other site" posted this story at 8:30 am this morning.
More of an observation of typical behavior.

What do you think of this guy MCE?

I'm not so sure I like the choice.
I don't know Alot about him but some of the posters in Australia didn't seem to like the choice.
I do know the Spurs had asked him to join the staff a couple of times before and he turned them down. Oh, and of course he had been with the Spurs staff before in more of a scouting capacity.

I hope he's just another add on to the coaching staff and not the actual replacement for Egan. And if he's NOT the replacement for Egan and he's just another one of assistant coaches, I much rather would have preferred a former NBA player.
huh?

Well as Mr C said -- we had a poster who lives in Australia post this item -- This morning -- not sure why infer something else would happen -- but I guess Its prob best not to even get into that

As for the choice -- I doubt its the replacement for Egan -- doesnt make sense it would be

Egan is a coach who was very respected and had 20+ years in coaching -- Im thinking this is just an addition to the Staff ---but just a guess on my part since nothing has really been reported

The Spurs were also reported to be looking at Kevin Pritchard -- who helped SA this summer -- he has some NBA Exp I believe- - not sure what the Status was on that -- it seemed they were def interested

Edited by: DizzG at: 7/23/02 6:50:54 pm

Well like always I have 100% confidence in Spurs managment and am sure the decision wasn't made in haste, whatever capacity he has joined us in.

At least he has a nice appearance, which is something sorely needed on the Spurs bench. I, personally, prefer a damn assistant with NBA experience. Is that too much to ask???? Damnit! Why the hell didn´t Porter get an assistant position in SA? That´s not a critique, that´s a question. Anybody know why? Seems Porter would´ve been a terrific fit in SA. He loves the Dominion golf club.
<span style="width: 100%; font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial Black; color:

Maybe Porter is trying to catch on with a team and play another year or two.
