Webber injured

Is anyone watching the Kings-Mavs? The Mavs were up 105-80 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Major turnaround!

But Chris Webber got injured. I wasn't watching closely, but no one hit him. He was starting to jump to block a shot when he crumpled to the floor and did not get up. At all.

Two teammates picked him up and carried him to a cart and he was wheeled to the locker room. He acted like it was bad. When he got out of the cart, he had a guy under each arm and another one holding his leg up.

This could be real bad for the Kings season.

DALLAS -- Sacramento Kings forward Chris Webber was carried to the locker room by four teammates after injuring his left leg in the third quarter against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.

Webber, who has been battling knee, ankle and back ailments, was going for a lob pass under his own basket when he suddenly fell to the ground and was motionless out of bounds for at least 10 seconds. Play was stopped with 2:58 left in the period and the Mavericks leading 104-78.

Several teammates rushed the length of the court to check on Webber, then took him to the locker room. Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof rushed to the locker room soon after. There was no immediate word on the exact nature of the injury.

Kings guard Bobby Jackson sustained a cheek/eye injury on a offensive charge in the fourth quarter and left the game. X-rays revealed that Jackson has a non-displaced fracture of the right orbital bone. He will not need surgery and his status for Saturday's game will depend on the swelling during the next 48 hours.

Considering the score, Webber and Jackson certainly weren't coming back into Game 2. Game 3 is Saturday night in Sacramento, with Game 4 on Sunday night.

Webber was leading the Kings with 31 points and six rebounds in 29 minutes.

Prior to the game, Webber said he was considering offseason surgery on his chronically injured left ankle, which has forced him to miss 30 games over the past two seasons.

"My movement is terrible. I cringe at the way I look out there,'' Webber said. "It's going to get better. I'm going to get all this fixed in the offseason.''

The All-Star forward also has been limited by sore knees and a strained back he hurt in the first-round series against Utah. He hasn't participated in a practice since that series.

Webber missed 10 games this season because of the ankle injury. He missed the first 20 games of last season after injuring the same ankle.

Webber severely sprained his ankle during each of the past three seasons. He thinks the chronic ankle injuries have contributed to his occasional back pain.

"It's really bad at night,'' he said. "Laying in bed is really hard. The pain is killing me.''

He didn't look too slowed by the injuries in the Kings' 124-113 victory over Dallas on Tuesday. Webber had 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Webber already has offseason obligations that could affect if and when he has surgery.

The former Michigan star faces trial in July on charges of obstruction of justice and lying to a federal grand jury involving an investigation into now-deceased Michigan booster Ed Martin. Martin said he lent $616,000 to former Wolverines basketball players, including Webber, while they were in high school and college.

If CWebb and Bobby got down, then that changes the whole series. Everyone was counting out allas from the beginning. They just shot lights out tonight, but shots won't fall every night. They gotta find some D...

I can't believe this after all the injuries we've had this season I thought they would finally be over with. C-Webb probably won't play the rest of the series and maybe the entire playoffs knowing him. Bobby's a warrior he'll play if he can, we can still get by Mavs if the team can keep it's head right, but any notions of a championship are gone because we aren't beating you guys without C-Webb. It's amazing how you can go from the top of the world to the bottom in a matter of 3 hours. Gotta love the SI jinx, pray they don't put TD on there before playoffs are over.
