Dude, if we could get Lamar, that would be HUUUUUUUUUUGE. If we wait till next year, we go after Jermaine O´Neal. I just think he and Tim would be monsters next to each other. And I love his youth and work ethic...and the fact that he´s an agile 7 footer. Don´t give me that "he loves Indiana" junk. He loves Tim Duncan and our neat city and the Spurs´ homely arena and practice facility... not to mention money and championship contention. If he stays in the Least he´s a gutless coward.
"David Robinson represents everything that is good in the world, and everything that is good in the world of sports," former NBA star and current NBC commentator Bill Walton said. Am I missing something here? I don't think Lamar Odom is a free agent this year. So we can't go after him. Odom becomes a free agent in 2003.

There are a total of 136 FAs this year but there will be only 87 FAs in 2003. So the picking will be slimmer if we hold onto our money and wait until next year.

On the other hand, there is $20 mil of money that won't be available until next year so we can't spend it now. (David and SSmith's contracts.) It's unfortunate that there will be less talent to choose from then.

Bowen took up more of the mid-level exemption than I had thought (not complaining, he's worth it) so there is not much money for this year.
I think the Kandiman works out best for us right now AND in the future.
"It's important to give back to the community we call home. Long after my NBA career, my family and I plan to continue our involvement in San Antonio.

Olawakandi has the size and had a decent season (finally), but I just don´t like underachievers.
Lamar just completed the third season of his rookie contract, and the Clipps want to move him to make more room for Darius and Q.

Okay, I see now. Odom has a 4th year as a team option. He doesn't show up on any of the free agents lists. (Is there a deadline for a team to let a player know if they will keep him?)

So would the Spurs have to do a trade to get him? He can't be signed outright as a restricted free agent, can he?

His salary next year will be in the 2.8 to 3 mil range which is a little less than AD. Surely the Clippers wouldn't trade Odom for AD straight up. How could we get him capwise?
He will move via trade... there is no question about it. If he is a FA (I think he is) he is restricted, and the Clippers won't let him go for nothing. I seriously doubt that we'd end up with him, unless it was a three way trade (as the Clipps are stacked at the 2-3 position).
